Delighted to hold my book, now out with @CUP_PoliSci! Making Bureaucracy Work examines how public agencies deliver primary #education in India.

What is my argument? How might it advance our thinking on #bureaucracy, #implementation & the politics of inclusive #development? 🧵1/ Image
My book investigates variation in the delivery of primary schooling across rural India. Comparative scholarship has shed light on differences in social policies and public spending. I focus on policy implementation, a critical but understudied arena of education politics. 2/
Why implementation? Most countries have laws for universal primary schooling (#SDGs Goal 4). E.g. India has expanded education programs and spending. But implementation is a huge challenge. Meeting this challenge is critical for millions of households who rely on govt schools. 3/ ImageImage

🧵. #Russia colonised #Ukraine in 18th century. Since then, they've been trying to exterminate ukrainian indentity and culture, to assimilate us into being russian. They appropriated a lot of our #culture, #history, achievements and personalities doing this. 1/ #twitterstorians
Foreword. Many of these examples might seem to you as insignificant or unconnected, but they all are evidence to the trend of generations of russians trying to unexist us as a nation, make Ukraine into what they think we are – "Little Russia" 2/
Let's get the obvious one out of the door. #Borsch is and always was Ukrainian. It got into russia with soviet diner menus. Now russians claim it's as intrinsic to russia as it is to us. Bullshit. 3/ A beautiful and tasty combo of Borsch, salo (lard in pieces)

1/9 #Colonial #Victorian tropes of #primitive and #civilised are never funny @BBCNews @BBCWorld. They were actively used to justify colonialism.

Small-scale societies are as complex as large states, and values and morals are #HumanUniversals. Also, #Neanderthals were smart! Image
2/9 #Hunter-gatherers live in small groups but have large social networks. San societies in southern #Africa maintain these by exchanging ostrich eggshell beads across hundreds of kilometers. And they have been doing this for over 30,000 years.

3/9 #Aboriginal societies in #Australia have complex ways of transmitting knowledge across space and time. Their #OralHistories preserved information on the impact of #SeaLevelRise at the end of the last #IceAge over 10,000 years.

Inga Clendinnen "Dancing with Strangers"

In this thread students @MQLinguistics read Clendinnen's historical #ethnography based on the diaries of the officers of the 1st fleet to learn about #InterculturalCommunication between British colonizers and Sydney's Indigenous people
#DancingWithStrangers is a story of confusion and ignorance of #culture #language, aspirations, traditions and #law
One of the most tragic figures is Baneelon, an Australian kidnapped by Governor Phillip and taught English in a desperate attempt to create an intermediary.
The detailed musings of the white men in #DancingWithStrangers contrast with the deafening silence of any women's voices - what did the Indigenous and colonising #women think of each other? Of the men they encountered? How different would history be if women had been in charge?

fellow ethnographers! those of us who are currently doing fieldwork and working with ethnographic methods might be facing extensive challenges in times of #covid19… a thread 👇 #ethnography #academictwitter
how are we supposed to get in touch with “the field” in times of social distancing, lockdowns and quarantines? how can we do field research when our options regarding research trips and stays are extremely limited?
Regarding these questions, I started to collect resources that could help us develop creative and rather unorthodox solutions to continue and/or implement research projects despite the current developments.

The feedback collected by a Customer Support Executive and UX has a notable difference. It is a checklist task for a #CustomerSupport #Executive to collect 50 feedbacks by the end of the day. #UX would be keen on collecting context and may not be compelled to complete x number of Image
calls. UX further may choose to do Observational Studies of certain scenarios to explore the Think Aloud aspect. This is significant in the field like #Healthcare.

What is Situational Usability Testing? The Usability Testing carried out under different situations. Under Stressful conditions, our mind and body react differently. Fingers turn sweaty. Touch screen can't recognise sweaty, dirty, food granule sticking to finger touches.
