Today I was driving in the NE in and around the neighbourhoods when I was about to turn around and head home when I saw someone flag me down.

I pulled over, put my flashers on. I got out to grab them some water and snacks and saw the older gentleman limping & in obvious pain.
When I say hobbling I mean every few steps he stopped to catch his breath because he was in so much pain.
That’s when I said I’d come to them.

Asking advice is important when considering a #STEM career. I had access to a lot of people in research and medicine to talk to and help me.

I'm currently leading the 'Science Fiction as An Astrobiology Outreach & Education Tool' at @EAIastrobiology. We used reprint SF stories accompanied by original science essays in 'Strangest of All', released last spring to aid outreach amidst lockdowns.

The positive response prompted us to edit a bigger, more ambitious print book of original astrobiological SF and essays. Titled Life Beyond Us, it's just funded on kickstarter and will be published next fall around the launch of @esa's Rosalind Franklin!

1/3 On Sat 6 Feb, our @ATMedics Whitechapel Health Centre team delivered an excellent #CV19 #vaccination service @elondonmosque. Several patients said they only came for their #COVIDVaccination as it was in the local mosque, being delivered by local GPs.
2/3 A 107 yr old lady attended, her daughter told us she had been hesitant but felt more comfortable since it was being delivered in her local community centre.
Awesome to collaborate with the #Mosque. We hope this will encourage more local people to come forward when invited...

Science #outreach is a form of informal education to help people learn about science outside of a classroom. It often involves fun activities or games to help demonstrate concepts 2/10
I discovered outreach as an undergrad at @CarnegieMellon, when I joined a neuroscience club at @cmuneurosci. I joined this club to meet my peers and learn more about my field, but I quickly realized that the group was heavily involved in outreach 3/10
It’s been a long and heavy night. So I won’t stay on too much longer. But on the topic of outreach: meet your target audience where they are #scicomm
Work with existing groups. Don’t reinvent the wheel. Work with after school programs, go to Black and Brown neighborhoods, work in under resourced classrooms. #Outreach #scicomm
