During the public comments section of the @SeattleCouncil meeting on 2/14, supporters of the proposed #Caste ordinance turned their ire on the "militant vegetarianism" of #Jains. Hear the sound byte to understand the outright hate being mainstreamed!
Ironically the long and ancient tradition of #vegetarianism among SOME #Hindus, #Jains, #Sikhs and #Buddhists is under fire-even as western society as a whole discovers the benefits of a #plantbased diet and #MeatLessMonday proliferates. 3/n

If we fail to get 3,250 voters to do this, there will only be a Republican available on the 4th house district ballot, covering cities like #Kalamazoo, #BattleCreek, #BentonHarbor, #Holland, #Portage, #Saugatuck, #StJoseph, and #SouthHaven. That Republican is absolutely terrible.
Bill Huizenga represents the area of the district in the red square. His old gerrymandered district is in green. He's a no-name candidate in most of the district. He needs an opponent, especially one like Joseph Alfonso who is a Marine #veteran on the state plumbing board.
1-6. Many times in the Education sector (18 years & a bit) I was told during interviews "we only gave you an interview because we were told we've got to tick a box that we interviewed a coloured person". I will never forgot those horrible words!.
2. I was told "your over experienced for the role you've applied for, especially for someone of your kind!". I always knew what the reason was, they didnt want someone like me, it was obvious looking at the working enviroment. #southasian #asian #proud
3. I never knew being brown skinned, having a culture and religion was a crime, till I joined a profession that almost finished me off!. But I aint going nowhere! I'll keep standing my ground and building that equality and fairness for others in my position in the profession....

When I landed as an #immigrant in #Canada, my life started in #Scarborough. My parents (#heros) struggled to find jobs that matched their education. That didn't stop them from working hard / hustling even if it meant 2 jobs at times to keep bills paid and food on the table. 2/
My family lived in an apt building that had mostly racialized/middle-low income families (#affordability). Not much social distancing when large crowds wait for elevators (#EssentialWorkers) or use the shared laundry facilities. This pandemic brings back those vivid memories 3/

We came to know of the dire shortage of #SouthAsian marrow donors when our nephew needed a bone marrow transplant to cure his leukemia. He was 7 y/o & while other patients had pages and pages of potential donors, he had none. We learned through #BeTheMatch.... (1/4)
...how easy it was to become a donor. We all got tested, but sadly no one in our extended family was a match for him. With the help of hundreds of folks who organized drives all around the country, we added thousands of new donors to the registry. Sadly, we couldn’t... (2/4)
...save our precious nephew, but we can save @liynaanwar. In fact, the drives we held brought forth countless lifesaving donors, including our cousin who was able to save the life of 9 yr-old girl w/aplastic anemia. (3/4)
