1/ I recently realized that to take advantage of #medtwitter I need to change my approach. So here goes

About me: I’m 31, born & raised in NYC...which means I learned how to drive at 26, I have a GoogleDoc of celeb sightings, & I run into people everywhere, including @ work.
2/ My education includes @bxsciencealumni
for HS, @BrownUniversity for college, @ColumbiaPostbac for premed, and finally @nymedcollege for med school.
3/ Why a postbac? Because in college I studied Econ & Slavic Studies. I actually spent my junior year in London at @LSE_GC and the following summer in St. Petersburg, Russia.

TBH I don’t think I could have gotten thru #premed as an undergrad and I loved my time at Columbia.

I’m sharing this article today because I feel so fortunate to have spent five years here at McMaster and lucky to have the chance to share my story and thank those that got me to where I am. A thread of thanks follows:
Most residents don’t have the opportunity to thank their supporters in print, but I know that each & every graduating resident has those champions who saw their passion and encouraged it, who saw their struggles and reached out, and who made hospital hallways feel like home.
We as learners appreciate you champions - thank you for your time at the end of busy clinics, for your caring, your genuine interest in our successes (both personal and professional), your commitment to improving education and supporting learners.

✨🗣 Exciting news y'all!!! 🗣✨

The Freedom School for Intersectional Medicine and Health Justice (intersectionalmedicine.org) is excited to announce its inaugural....

Freedom School Healing & Health Justice Fellowship!!

It's lit! We out here!! 🙅🏽‍♀️🔥🔥🔥 Image
We've heard from y'alls inquiries on how we build interdisciplinary coalitions for health justice. This fellowship is a 9-month opportunity for people committed to creating intersectional healing, initiatives that advocate for collective liberation and healing for all people.
Through this fellowship, we believe we can most effectively cultivate and learn from leaders who embody our Freedom School philosophy: Healing and transforming ourselves as we transform and heal our communities. Change starts with us.

There are many guides on how to write a personal statement. I thought I’d share my own thoughts for all those #premed & #medstudenttwitter folks. This is just my opinion, but it’s served me well.

So here goes: a #tweetorial on the PERSONAL STATEMENT!

Unlike another recent #medthread on the PS, I don’t think we should be using it to scare our applicants or to expect that they entertain us. Applying for the next level be it med school, residency, or whatever is stressful enough! Let’s support our applicants through it!
2/
First of all, I think the PS when poorly written can definitely lose you an interview. When written in a super compelling way, it may tip you toward getting an interview, but in the vast majority of cases, it doesn’t move the needle much. So first rule: don’t get weird.
