Die Diskussion über die Gurtpflicht (Gurte ab 1974 in Neuwagen vorne, seit 1976 Anschnallpflicht vorne, Rückbank später) war von großen Widerständen geprägt. Wie später bei anderen Themen wie Rauchen oder Impfen wurde „Freiheit“ als wesentliches Argument angeführt. 2/x
Viele schnallten sich nicht an. Viele Tote, schwerste Verletzungen durch Rausschleudern, SHT, schwerste Gesichtstraumata. Dazu keine Ausbildung (ich hatte 60 h Sanitätsausbildung und Beifahrer, die Notärzt:innen glaube ich überhaupt keinen Kurs. ÄiW im 150 Betten-Krankenhaus. 3/x

Hier wurde der gesetzlich vorgeschriebene Mindestabstand von 1,5m deutlich unterschritten. Waren vielleicht grad noch so 30cm. Hier wird ein Radfahrer von der Fahrbahn geschoben. Es wurde dabei billigend in Kauf genommen das ich stürzen könnte. #verkehrswende #visionZero 2/10
Vor 2 Tagen wurde eine Radfahrer ca 300m Meter von dieser Stelle durch einen rücksichtslosen Taxifahrer gefährdet. Das ist übrigens der Grund warum man flüchtet. Autofahrer steigen aus, schreien aggressiv und drohen #verkehrswende #visionZero 3/10

Minutes after last night’s press conference, an 85-year-old man died in a car crash as he drove the wrong way on Mission Gorge Road. This brings up an important point: Protected bike lanes, crosswalks, traffic calming etc. are the *low-hanging fruit.* 3/
We received an email yesterday from the mother of an injured cyclist, letting us know that her son had been hit by a bus while riding his bike on Sarnia Road. She told us the following:
On Monday, Oct.3 around noon her son, a Western student, was biking to school on Sarnia Road. He was riding on the mostly empty sidewalk, but as he got closer to the school there were a lot of pedestrians, so he merged onto the road.
He rode very close to the curb, and then was hit by a bus. He was clipped by the mirror, and ended up with a broken arm. The bus driver, emerging from the bus, asked him why he wasn't riding on the sidewalk; the student told him to call for help.

Meinen Weg in die Redaktion mit dem #Fahrrad von Wilmersdorf nach Kreuzberg habe ich so ausgewählt, dass ich nur noch an sehr kurzen Stücken mit Autofahrern zu tun habe. Gerade reichten 100 Meter wieder, um zweimal trotz Vorfahrt „übersehen“ und fast plattgefahren zu werden.
Kein Wunder, dass viele Leute Angst haben, #Fahrrad zu fahren und auch ihre Kinder da nicht reinschicken wollen. Der Schlüssel zur #Verkehrswende in Berlin liegt bei @Innensenatorin, @polizeiberlin und Ordnungsämtern. So lange dort #renehatverständnis gilt, wird das nichts.
By the way: Kann mir jemand hier Links zu Texten posten, in denen sich die @Innensenatorin für Verkehrssicherheit und #VisionZero stark macht? Nach einem halben Jahr im Amt kann man ja mal fragen. Von ihrem Vorgänger und #SPD-Parteifreund kam ohnehin so gut wie nichts dazu.

You'll know if you follow me on here that I think there are so many issues with how we deal with road danger - and there is so much to do. But it seems that in Leeds & West Yorkshire that things are beginning to change - with, for example, work on #VisionZero.
Watching the mtg, it's blatantly obvious yet again that the people not around the table are the car manufacturers & marketeers - who sell increasingly dangerous vehicles & promote them in ways that glorify speed, risk, thrill etc. There are limits to what everyone else can do.

Quality site design, public realm design, #VisionZero, connectivity to transit & n’borhood amenities, and minimal parking supply are the most important aspects of a project to DDOT. The traffic analysis (i.e. intsctn congestion) has been demoted to #9 (most cities it’s still #1).
There are so many good reasons to provide minimal off-street parking and appropriately price the amnt of parking you do have (especially near transit)... check out the graphic on the right, isn’t the bldg on the bottom so much better?
