I have recently been told that I should not say I am autistic like I am labelling and discriminating myself so let me make some personal statements for the #AutismAcceptanceWeek 🤝🏽❤️🩹
❤️🩹 Since childhood, understanding myself was almost impossible. I felt like and I was treated like a cryptid the whole time in the society. Discovering autism for myself was the best thing that happened to me for the advancement of understanding of myself.

❤️🩹 For long I’ve seen people who struggled to find their purpose of life. Having found my special interest i.e. “purpose of life” was the most blissful thing I could ever asked for in life. I would like to thank autism for burning my passion for certain things.

1) A safe and inclusive learning environment is crucial for neurodivergent students. This can mean providing clear expectations, minimizing distractions, and offering accommodations such as extra time or preferential seating.
2) It's important to remember that all students learn differently, not just the neurodivergent. So, it's essential for educators to use a variety of teaching strategies and materials. Making this a normal part of education can benefit all students, regardless of neurodiversity.

Person first language is language such as “person with autism”, “has autism”, “people with autism” etc is seen as ableist as it sees our Autism as something that needs separating from us and that you have to emphasise at the start that we are “people” first which is offensive
Autism has a huge influence on who we are as people it’s part of us, it cannot be separated from us. Our BRAINS are Autistic. Autism DOES define us in a way but THATS OKAY. It’s not all that we are though. We are not “with Autism” we ARE “Autistic”. Autistic isn’t a dirty word

I’m focusing here on caring for relatives, family members, or friends.
It’s something many of us find ourselves doing with no training or support.

Back then (the early 1980s) the term ‘carer’ hadn’t even been invented.

One of the hardest things was being unrecognised and unsupported by professionals.
My partner had severe mental health issues and I might as well have been invisible.
Even after my existence was acknowledged no one had direct contact with me.
I was left to try and cope alone.

1. Oh was yesterday #AutismAwarenessDay? Dang. I missed it. Instead I stayed off of social Media and spent a lovely day with my #ActuallyAutistic family not waving jigsaw pieces around, turning blue or spreading misinformation around that makes money for charities.
2. Later on I did a 3hr workshop on #AutisticMasking to 400 lovely Danish people with @DrAmyPearson. I missed #AutismAwarenessDay yet still somehow managed to pass on a shitload of useful & practical #Autism knowledge to a shitload of people
3. Its strangely like there's no need to have #AutismAwarenessDay, #AutismAwarenessWeek, or #AutismAwarenessMonth because for many Autistic people every day is, week and month of the year where we put out immensities of useful & productive #Autism information in various forms.
Today is the first day of #AutismAcceptanceWeek, so I have a request for everyone who interacts with autistic people (particularly nonspeaking autistic people):
Don’t talk about us while we’re right in front of you as if we’re not there, and don’t infantilize us.

I used to volunteer at a school for disabled people, and we had a lot of autistic students.
Almost all of the teachers would talk to each other about the students, and even complain about them, while they were right there in the same room.
It was so viscerally wrong.

I knew for a fact that the students understood what was being said about them. I watched as their facial expressions and body language changed.
But the teachers didn’t really seem to notice or care.
I was afraid to tell them to stop, in case it would cause me to lose my job.
