A lot of the #UrgencyofNormal folks say "Oh, we need to LIVE again. If you get COVID you can easily get paxlovid and monoclonal antibodies, etc and probably be fine." Thread. 1/6
Only problem with that is with Omicron (including BA.2 et al), most of our current mAbs don't work so well and the ones that do are not readily available. Paxlovid is incredibly hard to find AND a lot of docs and providers STILL don't know that they should prescribe it. 2/6
Add to that the $$ cuts to COVID relief related funding, and it gets even worse. If you are fully vaxxed + boosted and get COVID, you'll probably not need to go to the hospital, but if your disease is anything more than mild, it is HARD to get these "treatments" 3/6

There were many considerations that governments, researchers, and leaders balanced as they considered measures to "protect kids mental health," under the psychopathic notion that "covid isn't that bad for kids." Very few considered the direct cost of a child losing a caregiver /1
For every adult caregiver, caregiving grandparent, or other important adult who died in a child's life during COVID due to someone being unvaccinated, or a responsible policy not being followed, a child was directly harmed.

1. Something interesting is happening with #COVID19 in MA, where case incidence appears much higher right now in wealthier suburbs. My guess is one of two things is happening, neither of which bodes well. 🧵
2. First, the data. We are seeing average daily rates > 20 per 100K in towns like Manchester, Sherborn, Wayland, Concord, and Wellesley. In contrast, it’s <= 5 in Chelsea, Lawrence, and Brockton. This isn’t a formal analysis and there are counterexamples, but you get the idea.
3. Hypotheses 1: This is the #UrgencyOfNormal crowd. Wealthy suburbs with high vaccination and booster rates are dropping pandemic precautions at a faster rate. This is certainly happening anecdotally ⬇️

I have seen some poor arguments against #UrgencyOfNormal recently..the lowest form involves attacking authors based on their race and SES .. many signatories are essential workers including nurses, frontline physicians etc. who have lived and dealt w/ covid for two years 1/10
Others misrepresent the argument as calling the "pandemic to be over", "disregarding the vulnerable" & "taking our masks away" but the entire premise is focused on removing unnecessary restrictions that have no demonstrable impact on changing the course of the pandemic .. 2/10
and restoring normalcy for those at lowest risk for poor outcomes I.e. school aged children and coll. students whose low risk is now even lower with vaccinations & recovery from prior infection..it is imperative now we unburden & restore their right to a vibrant social life 3/10

Study out of southern switzerland. Measures of depression, anxiety, and stress varied as the pandemic went on, but overall numbers not particuarly high compared to other reported numbers. they did increase, however.
Interesting conclusion:

Hoeg’s #UrgencyofNormal partner, @drlucymcbride agrees: “human beings need to see each other’s faces.” Maybe this is news to McBride but needing to see faces imposes on others obligations to reveal them. McBride doesn't restrict the obligation, which makes it a broad social one.
I don’t know how else to say this, but Hoeg and McBride seem to believe wearing a mask by one person is the wrongful deprivation of another person’s human needs. A little ironic coming from the individual responsibility camp, no?
