At the age of 20, Sindhutai was left for the dead by her husband with a 17-day-old girl child who she had given birth to in a cow shed. She walked to her parent’s house for shelter, but her family turned her away. ⁠

With nowhere else to go and a baby to feed, Sindhutai started begging in trains and on the streets in order to survive. Fearing for her safety and that of her daughter, she spent her nights in cemeteries and cowsheds.⁠
It was during these difficult times that Sindhutai began spending time with orphaned children & realized how difficult life was for them. ⁠

She adopted around a dozen orphans & took on the responsibility of keeping them clothed & fed,even if it meant begging for longer hours.

Yes, I had higher salary offers from schools in bigger towns, but for me, the 169 Rs I was offered at my school village meant everything.

I was hungry for teaching the students from my town who needed a good teacher the most.
I taught at my school for 39 years and only retired because I’d hit my ‘retirement age’– 60; what a ridiculous concept!

Afterwards, I expected to spend years drinking sugary tea and wasting my time on the charpoy!

Neehaari Mandali from Hyderabad is a burn survivor who offers free plastic surgeries to burn victims across Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana through the Burn Survivor Mission Saviour Trust.
"Post-burn surgeries are expensive and not very prevalent. So, focuses on helping people with burn injuries who do not have financial stability or are unaware of such treatments altogether."

Chennai-based Ashwanth Kumar, food is the most direct way of spreading joy. Inspired by the kindness he'd observed in his late grandmother, the 25 YO now provides free meals to the underprivileged under Pankajam charity.
He started a #CommunityKitchen in his grandmother's home, which offers meals for Rs 15-Rs 20 and also gives for free to those who cannot afford them.⁠

Dev Pal and Deepak Chaudhary have built a sustainable school for the children of migrant farmers in flood-prone areas. Designed to be movable, these schools don’t need electricity and are well-ventilated.
"When we requested a school in the area, the National Green Tribunal rejected it as the place is flood-prone. No electricity can be provided, too, as the settlements are temporary. That is how the bamboo school idea came up."
The school, Sharda Yamuna Khadar Pathshala, is funded by the Ekta Foundation. It had less than five students in the beginning but now has over 250 of them.
