I was live on @BBCNews last night talking about the language of #climate change. Here's a thread of short clips. First, I was asked to address what we call it: #ClimateChange #ClimateCrisis #ClimateEmergency #GlobalWarming Great to talk with @bbcdavideades!
Then we discussed a great term: #GlobalWeirding. Because human-caused #climate disruption is so much more than warming. It's the increased frequency & intensity of #extremeweather #heavyrain #Heatwaves #Wildfires #drought #flooding and more.
I explained why #greenhouse gases or #GHGs are not a great term for the public and why I prefer heat-trapping #pollution - it explains the mechanism.
Getting the whole world to #netzero #GHGs rapidly is going to be incredibly difficult. But given how strong and organized the #climateopposition is, we must distinguish #thesignalfromthenoise on which pathways are the most likely to succeed. A 𧡠on how I think about this 1/14

We understand the anger against politicians at #COP26 for delivering a weak, inadequate #ClimateChange agreement. But blaming individual decision-makers ignores the fact that the system rewards failure. Hereβs how we tackle that reality. 𧡠(1/15)
Hereβs the problem: the profits of the #FossilFuel economy are kept largely separate from its costs. That means that countries/companies/investors who generate products and burn fuels that cause #ClimateChange pocket the profits while others pay the price. π΅ (2/15)
As a result, #FossilFuels appear profitable, and thereβs massive incentive for political and economic structures to treat these industries as wealth creators. Which creates incentives for climate denial, downplaying the role of the #FossilFuel industry, etc. (3/15)

Solar Variability and Climate
Not sure how peer-reviewers were able to evaluate the environmental impact scenarios in the #EATLancet paper, as the manuscript itself is pretty skimpy on quantitative details, as is the supplementary materials. For example, below is what the authors reference for assumed #GHGs
But, if you check references 4,5,9, and 10 in supplementary appendix, no way those refs are referring to this information.
Maybe main manuscript references? Seems unlikely except for the Tilman & Clark reference.
