While a number of biographies have been authored on her illustrious daughter, Chand Bibi, not a single book has been authored on the life and achievements of her great mother. She was a remarkable woman who had enjoyed influence during her husband’s reign and then herself ruled
Khunza Humayun Shah, who Ferishta mentions as the Khoonza Sultana, was the mother of Murtuza Nizam Shah, who was his regent for 6 years and during that period managed the afffairs of the Ahmadnagar Sultanate. Murtuza Nizam Shah was enthroned in 1565.
There is little doubt that sometimes the best way to make sense of the transmission of texts, debates and commentaries is to dive deeply into codices of collected texts (majmūʿa-s) #manuscripts #Islamic #intellectual_history 1/
One good example is the majmūʿa MS Majlis-e Shūrā (Tehran) 5284 which includes ten texts mostly copied by Sulṭān Muḥammad b. ʿAlī Shāh Iṣfahānī in 962/1555 in Bharuch in West India 2/

Today's history lesson is about our language. In Hyderabad and the Deccan, people speak in Dakhni, which today is only a spoken language. Words like Kaiku, Nakko, Hao, Manje, Hao-ki etc are imports from Marathi, Kannada and Telugu. A thread on Dakhni.

Nakko, Kaiku and Hallu (in pic) are 3 commonly used Dakhni words(also called Dakhni Urdu) that we Hyderabadis use in our speech.“Manje/Minjhe” is used by Dakhni speakers in other parts of the Deccan (like Karnataka/MH). FYI Manje in Urdu also refers to a pre-wedding ritual.
“Hyderabadi Hindi” is what north Indians wrongly call Dakhni. Please, DON'T call it Hindi. Many Urdu speakers also mistake it for a form of localized Urdu, which, again, is incorrect. Words like “Haula” (mad), “Hau” (yes) and others, are imports from Marathi, Kannada and Telugu.

From @RCT this c1603 painting by artist #Mohan is of the 2nd emperor, Nasir ud din Mohd #Humayun, ruled from 26th Dec 1530 to 27th May 1540. Defeated by #Suri dynasty, he recovered the empire, ruling from 22nd Feb 1555 till 27th Jan 1556. Died falling from stairs

From @hermitage_eng, the portrait by #Manohar c1580 is of the 3rd #Mughal Emperor Jalal ud din Mohammed #Akbar Ruling from #Agra from 27th Jan 1556 to 27th Oct 1605. Died from Dysentery and entombed at #Sikandra near Agra.
