3/12. The G77 and China have tabled a very detailed proposal for a fund designated as an “operating entity” of the financial mechanism of the @UNFCCC, but the current text uses the term “fund as part of new and enhanced funding arrangements".
1/4. This evening at #COP27 #Barbados told @COP27P: "We would not wish to come out of this COP without a clear definitive language within the text and the cover text that addresses #LossAndDamage."
2/4. Support on #LossAndDamage, "has to include a reform of #MDBs. It has to address a pathway for accessing #Finance. It has to deal with the scale of finance which must be commensurate with the scale of the crisis which we did not ask for and cannot afford to finance."
3/4. The intervention continued: "Circumstances where we are highly debt burdened because the scale of financing development far outstrips our capacity. There is an urgent need for us to have the fiscal space to deal with crisis and deal with development issues."

Beginning in the 1920s, Barbadians and other British West Indians began organizing politically in an international environment that was marked by a severe capitalist economic and financial crisis that intensified in the 1930s.
The response in the British Caribbean during the 1930s was in the form of rebellions that demanded colonial reform. The ensuing struggles resulted in constitutional and political changes that led to decolonization and independence.

The deal, would have left CIBC with a 25% stake in the #Barbados-based bank. This valued FCIB at about US$1.2 billion, less than half of its $2.8 billion value when CIBC took over most of the business.

Because the island state of Barbados wants to break away from the Commonwealth and become an independent republic. "It is time to leave our colonial past behind us," quoted the Governor General of Barbados, Sandra Mason, from a speech by her Prime Minister.
"The people of Barbados want a head of state from Barbados." There could be no doubt that the country had the ability to govern itself. The goal is to take the step on the 55th anniversary of the island state's independence - that would be in November of the coming year.

Credit is due to Todd L. Savitt, PhD, a medical historian @EastCarolina, who did the legwork flying to Chicago & Grenada in 1987 & identified Dr. Noel from sketchy details in a 1910 case report. He published his findings in a paper in @JAMA_current in 1989./2
In a 2010 paper in #JNMA @NationalMedAssn, Dr. Savitt described just how he tracked Noel's history down. It required both persistence and serendipity. Savitt has published extensively about race and medicine - the intersection of which is clearly part of this story, too. /3
