And yeah, I realize some of you are on the job market right now. You need salary and health insurance. So you can't exactly go around unfollowing ppl on the search committees & such.

Other than critical race he mentions “defunding the police” and gender (“girls being deprived of sports scholarships”) and concludes: “and here’s what we gonna do … the key word tenure (he says it as if it was something perverse)… tenure? It’s time that that comes to an end”

As the report makes clear, the @BORUSG is redefining tenure and academic due process to justify what its oversees the Board of Regents did in gutting tenure. In short, gaslighting. 3/x
Just need a moment to say: I'm 100% done with academic conference registration fees. This system is broken.
I could present work at 2 conferences this spring. Both are over $500 for non-members. They obviously want me to renew my membership. For what benefits?
That would be the entirety of my usual travel allocation in a year, and I'm privileged to have that. These are for education-related conferences.

When I introduced myself today for the first time as an Associate Professor of Gender & Women’s Studies, I teared up a little. #tenure
I didn’t know this would happen. I truly wasn’t sure, at one point, that I could survive the tenure track & not lose my soul. I used the use the hashtag #tenureorbust during my most intense work-hustle times. I exhausted myself, but I also worked hard to not lose myself.
Moving toward full authenticity the last two years working at UW, a place I finally felt supported & valued, has made this win even more sweet. I cannot wait to see what’s next, what this freedom & security will allow me to do to continue to fight for justice for my communities.

I’ve had multiple ppl tell me that if I don’t get tenure I have a lawsuit on my hands & yet a part of me is still like: Racism & sexism are wild & I trust no white man’s “meritocracy”. I’ll feel confident I have tenure when I see the paperwork that says so & not a second sooner.
There are too many horror stories of talented, accomplished women of color being denied tenure, particularly at elite universities. There are too many stories of people working themselves into health crises & strained relationships for 6 yrs only to be told no.
You can’t ask me to put faith in a system that has harmed & failed so many people I admire. I will believe it when I see it. And in the meantime, I’ll be spending this summer preparing myself for what I do if it’s a no.
There are a lot of things that tenured (and some tenure track) #faculty can do to resist the decline of #tenure. This thread focuses on ways to formalize the hiring and retention of #adjunct faculty and other #lecturers in your department and at your school. #highereducation
1) Tenured faculty should ask to receive regular (at least annual) reports on what % of courses, and what % of students in their department’s courses are taught by non-tenure track faculty.
2) When your department hires new non-tenure track instructors, ensure that it uses a formal application process. This requires: a regional job posting, application, formal hiring criteria, and a teaching contract before school starts.

Editors (who are all under enormous pressures of their own) will show interest, say all the right things. They will show genuine interest in your manuscript...but they can’t guarantee that your book will be out by *your* professional deadline. 2/
Some editors have dozens and dozens of books in the pipeline. For every prize-winning book, there are many more that received considerably less attention because, hey, there are only so many hours in a day. 3/
