Recently I said a #SafeSupply is the pinnacle of saving lives but I realized it's not; it's the FOUNDATION, upon which we build policies to actually save lives.

2-Drugs would be legalized. A safe, known potency supply of substances created by existing drug manufacturers. It would include supply for RX'd medicines as well as for OTC public, adult, sales and consumption. Similar to how alcohol is sold & consumed now.

3-The BILLIONS UPON BILLIONS being funneled into the #DrugWar and the 'opioid crisis' would be put into improving efficacy and access to AFFORDABLE HEALTH CARE, including mental and dental health, while bridging gaps in regard to other #socialdeterminants of health.
In-depth individual interviews of 25 #women #workers at the Ambassador Bridge produced #breastcancer risk understandings & agency narratives.

Last night at @INDOPACOM Defense Chiefs meeting, I spoke of how #COVID19 has put a spotlight on inequity in opportunities for health, and made the case to other world leaders and defense chiefs that health inequities are an international security threat.
That’s why I was pleased to announce that for the first time, @HHSGov’ Healthy People 2030 sets 10-year targets for objectives related to social determinants of health. I challenged other world leaders to make #socialdeterminants a defense priority.

Social determinants of health include transportation, affordable housing, places to exercise, and access to healthy foods. It’s one thing tell people to make healthy choices. It’s another thing to realize the choices people make are dependent on the choices they actually have.

The families and children I met were actually my real teachers. They were teaching me about ethical #psychiatry. They were teaching me that if you take #humanrights out of psychiatry, then it becomes dangerous and toxic.
It’s not black and white. It’s not about denouncing the medical model, but we’ve identified huge asymmetries and power imbalances in the field. #Mentalhealth care has gone wrong for several reasons but drugs were announced as if they were more effective than other interventions.
1/ It is strange being an epidemiologist, liberal, scientist who feels like we are making mistakes with absolutism of shutdowns. (and being lumped with antivaxxers, Trump etc. by my own people)

Along with Jeffrey Selberg @PetersonCHealth, my @KaiserFamFound colleagues and I took a deep dive into the health system. We examined the last 25 years of health spending and outcomes in the U.S. vs similar countries. We look at dozens of indicators from a variety of data sources
U.S. health outcomes have improved, generally, over the past generation. In the past 25 years, life expectancy in the U.S. improved 4% and disease burden improved 12% (though both recently worsened a bit). Meanwhile, the share of our economy devoted to health increased by 40%
