1. A very personal view & reflection on what happened at the #RCPsychIC AGM when members of the @rcpsych were asked to vote on a proposal to finally give #SASdoctors voting rights. It has been 5 days since, but I think there are issues & lessons worth discussing & reflecting on.
2. Learning the proposal would be voted at the AGM was a surprised for everyone, a +ve one for SAS doctors, but just a surprise for others. Some were not even aware we don't have voting rights, but the majority seemed to be upset they were not given enough time to process this.
3. However, it seemed the main unpleasant surprise was the proposal on granting post nominal titles to other non MRCPsych, yet paying members of the college, something that created great uproar. Although we understood the disagreement, some comments were very dismissal...

I'm receiving some concern from trainees @rcpsychTrainees and consultants @rcpsych about the proposed changes to use of #RCPsych in titles ("postnominals"), & accessibility of #AGM at #RCPsychIC. Information not easy to find so let me try to describe (Conflict of Int: FRCPsych)
Currently "MRCPsych" aka membership is used by doctors who have passed College #exams, and FRCPsych used by Fellows -essentially more senior members. These are the only 2 postnominals and have some other conditions. There are other ways of associating with the RCPsych though...
Specialist Associates @rcpsych are experienced psychiatrists in the UK,on the GMC specialist register but without the MRCPsych exams (eg if trained abroad to consultant level). Proposals introduce "SpARCPsych" and use FRCPsych for senior SpA (so FRCPsych no longer = passed exams)

This afternoon's #RCPsychIC keynote is by Professor Huda Zoghbi, Professor of Pediatrics, Molecular and Human Genetics, Neurology, and Neuroscience at Baylor College of Medicine (@bcmhouston).
Professor Zoghbi is also an Investigator with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute (@HHMINEWS), and the founding Director of the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute at Texas Children’s Hospital. #RCPsychIC

Our speaker is one of the most influential psychiatrists in biological psychiatry - Dr John Krystal from @Yale - who says the STAR*D study showed too few saw remission from depression from antidepressants and in other analyses ADs proved less effective than we thought #RCPsychIC
