🥤Multiple sources, same origin: #Microplastics are ubiquitous in our environment, but they are mainly invisible. They can be intentionally produced or result from the fragmentation of larger plastics. They are part of the bigger #StoryOfPlastics, as they are a human creation.

They can move thousands of kilometers in a matter of days to weeks, affecting even remote populations.

So first off, deforestation is already a problem and one that can be alleviated with production of paper products using quickly-growing help as part of the solution. Instead, we now need more paper products, and with less carbon in the air, less trees and less trees growing.
So now with these new paper products that don't work really well, consumers will require more of them to perform in a similar manner as their plastic counterparts. = more waste (although biodegradable hopefully)

As the report points out, the #waste sector remains the largest contributor to urban emissions after the energy sector, even in low-carbon #cities. Urban areas themselves represent the lion’s share of global emissions, and it's increasing: from 60% in 2000 to 67% in 2015.
So, the @IPCC_CH #ClimateReport recognises that cities can significantly reduce emissions, but this requires systemic transformation: #circulareconomy, #inclusion, #equity, innovative technologies can make a huge contribution towards low carbon urban devel'mnt
