As anyone who works on #COIs and #MotivatedBias can tell you, this arrangement is ethically unacceptable from an #OccupationalHealth perspective. HCPs paid directly by the league are in NO conceivable sense "independent."

And giving team physicians the "ultimate say" is absolutely the last thing you would do if you truly understood COIs as exposures and #MotivatedBias as a population health harm. It is literally inconceivable that this arrangement continues apace.

Remember a week or so back when I talked about the deep connections between the #railroadindustry and contemporary public health policy? This is one of them. The RR industry pioneered the model of having company physicians care for injured workers.

Some things we learned were: MPX passes through close physical contact, from infected objects, and large respiratory droplets. MPX can infect anyone, no one is more vulnerable than anyone else. (2/6)
Public health crises highlight and exacerbate already existing inequities regarding race, class, & sexual & gender orientation. From there, stigmas are borne. Schools play a critical role in dispelling these myths & stigmas. (3/6)

COVID-19 has made it clearer than ever that the current health care infrastructure is racist, classist, ableist, and criminally inadequate. Frontline communities have a longstanding history of resisting this system by building community-controlled alternatives in its place.
(3/4) Alternatives where frontline, BIPOC communities receive the quality care they need. Alternatives where disabled, chronically ill, and immuno-compromised folks are not disposable, but whose lives are centered and held sacred.

In a legislative session in which some on the far right are seeking to strip executive emergency powers, I’ve crafted a balanced approach to reforming #PublicHealth statutes in light of concerns about overreach without unduly hindering swift responses & nimble adjustments.
Even if you feel public health orders went too far in 2020, there are other infectious disease threats on the horizon that could pose different (e.g., disproportionately killing/injuring children) &/or greater risks (e.g., w/ higher transmissibility or mortality).

Teachers are not trying to get paid to sit at home. If your kid doesn't log on we cannot teach live. That is why we made videos, slideshows, and handouts. Your kid cannot sit tethered to a laptop the whole day. We need to be realistic about the amount and pace of work.
Teachers had literally 3 days training. Vacations were cancelled we worked straight through. The powers that be are weaponizing parents and kids against teachers and are gaslighting us all. This is literally about our very lives.
