I was today years old when I learned that the scholar who defined the term “cognitive dissonance” did so after successfully predicting that many members of a doomsday cult would double down on their beliefs after a predicted apocalypse failed to occur.
He theorized that those who have not made a strong commitment to the prophecy with quietly lose their face, well, those that I’m giving away all their possessions would double down on the belief, no matter what.
Festinger’s hypothesis would be named cognitive dissonance, and flew in the faith of what of every existing theory of motivation and human behavior.
This is what policy based on public health and not detached agenda or padding the rich pockets of Big Pharma looks like. 👇 And this is exactly why Team Biden and The Truman Show have painted Florida as the enemy.

The @nytimes presents the figure of 60% as the most conservative of estimates, going up to 90% (which, absurdly, would put #SARSCoV2 at the contagiousness level of measles) when in fact scientists have also estimated that the #HerdImmunity threshold could be far lower.

This is a really important thread on the cognitive dissonance that exists around bullies & smear campaigns in the #domesticabuse sector. It’s an open secret that few are able to address openly because they fear being ostracised and even shut down by the inevitable smear campaign.
It’s something that I know many people in the sector have experienced and I also have personal experience. It is a conversation that others and I have had numerous times, over many years and it is an important issue. Why?
Because, how can you expect others to recognise abuse when you play a part in overlooking it?
