2022 was the victim of many major #crypto crashes, but three of them stood out the most.

#LUNA\#LUNC | #FTX | #CelticFC

Here's a thread! 🧵👇
2- Let's start off with the infamous #TerraClassic, which saw its token at the time, $LUNA (now known as $LUNC) crash from $86 to under $0.01 in just 48 hours which caused $LUNA holders to lose a total of $60 Billion.
3- What happened? Well, over $2 Billion #TerraUSD $UST was unstaked from #AnchorProtocol and many millions of dollars swiftly became liquidated.

#TerraClassic still exists to this day and their community of #LUNAtics still believe in its future, but do you?

One of the saddest stories in Celtic's history is that of Mick McKeown.

After a notable career with the Bhoys the Ayrshire man's life spiralled downwards.

It came to an end in awful circumstances - the exact location being in the shadow of Celtic Park.

1/10

#celticfc
McKeown was part of many important Celtic firsts, including:

* First game at original Celtic Park (playing for Hibs)
* Celtic’s first trophy (1889 Glasgow North Eastern Cup)
* First Scottish Cup game (his debut)
* First league game

And many others too.

2/10

#celticfc
After leaving Celtic he had multiple problems.

His most notable issue was being an alcoholic, which clouded every experience.

McKeown played for various other clubs and worked as a miner, dyer, navvy, labourer and soldier.

But in all he couldn't escape the demon drink.

#CelticFC 2021/22 accounts cover a season when they regained the Scottish Premiership title under new manager Ange Postecoglou and also won the League Cup, but were eliminated from the Europa League after the group stage.
#CelticFC swung from £11.5m pre-tax loss to £6.1m profit (£5.8m after tax), as revenue rose £27m (45%) from £61m to £88m and profit on player sales increased £20m from £9m to club record £29m, partly offset by £25m (29%) higher operating expenses and no repeat of £5m insurance.
Main reason for #CelticFC revenue increase was match day, which rose £22m (107%) from £21m to £43m, due to the return of fans to the stadium, while commercial grew £3m (11%) to £32m in a more normalised trading environment and broadcasting was up £2m (18%) to £13m.

Thread on how much money clubs have already received after the Champions League 2022/23 group stage. Also includes estimates for English clubs in Europa League and Europa Conference League. Some assumptions made about the TV pool, but the figures should be reasonably accurate.
The Champions League accounts for the lion’s share of UEFA revenue with its €2.032 bln being nearly 3 times as much as the Europa League and Europa Conference combined (€700m). The difference is particularly stark in the UEFA coefficient (based on 10-year rankings).
Champions League overall prize money is 3.6 times the Europa League and 5.5 times the Europa Conference, but this varies by round. In general, the difference becomes smaller the further a club progresses, e.g. last 16 it’s 8x and 16x, while for the winners it’s only 2.3x and 4x.

A few people have asked how much #RangersFC earned for reaching the Europa League final. My estimate is £17m (€19.3m) TV money. Would have got another €4m if they had won the final.

This compare to #CelticFC £9m (€10.5m) for group stage plus Conference League knockout round.
#CelticFC earnings boosted by having a higher UEFA coefficient payment (€3.4m) than #RangersFC (€0.9m), as they are ranked higher based on performances in UEFA tournaments over the last 10 years (Celtic 38th vs Rangers 98th). Figures will be updated after this season.
In addition, both clubs' revenue will include money for additional gate receipts and bonuses in commercial deals, partially offset by higher variable compensation for players and other staff.

UEFA has published the revenue distributions for the Champions League and Europa League in the 2020/21 season. Although these are very close to the modelled figures that I have previously provided, I thought some people might like to have the final, official figures.
Unsurprisingly, the two Champions League finalists earned the most with winners #CFC and #runners-up MCFC receiving £105m and £104m respectively, followed by #RealMadrid and #PSG, both £96m, then #FCBayern £81m and #LFC £77m.
Clubs in the Europa League received a lot less with winners #Villarreal getting only £29m, followed by semi-finalists #AFC £26m and #ASRoma £21m, then #THFC £16m. Runners-up #MUFC earned £15m after dropping down from the Champions League, while #LCFC got £14m.

After UEFA’s ruling that no Russian clubs will participate in its competitions until further notice, it is now certain that the winners of the Scottish Premiership will qualify automatically for the group stage of the Champions League without having to go through a play-off.
As Celtic realistically only need three points to secure the title (given their vastly superior goal difference), it looks likely that they will take Scotland’s Champions League place, so I thought it would be interesting to estimate how much this might be worth #CelticFC
#CelticFC have received £133m from Europe in TV distributions from UEFA in the last 10 years, but the difference between earnings from the Champions League (£92m in 4 years) and the Europa League (£41m in 6 years) is stark.

The song 'Willie Maley' is a firm favourite of @CelticFC fans.

It tells the story of the club's history, from the very start until more recent times.

This thread looks at all of the verses, giving more detail for each of them.

1/21

#celticsongs #celticfc #williemaleysong
The first verse is about Willie Maley.

A @CelticFC legend, in fact the club were trying to sign his brother Tom and he was asked to also come along.

He ended up playing for and managing the club for more than half a century.

2/21

#celticsongs #celticfc #williemaleysong
The opening verse also mentions Patsy Gallagher.

The Irishman was a forward who became a huge fans' favourite, known for various tricks.

He played from 1911-25. His most famous goal was a somersault in the 1925 Scottish Cup Final.

#RangersFC 2020/21 accounts cover a year of “unprecedented challenges” due to COVID, though they won the league for the first time in a decade, staying unbeaten in the process, and reached the quarter-finals of both domestic cup competitions and the last 16 of the Europa League.
#RangersFC pre-tax loss widened from £17.8m to £24.7m (£24.2m after tax), as revenue fell £11.3m (19%) from £59.0m to £47.7m, partly offset by increases in other income, up £1.4m to £3.4m, and profit on player sales, up £1.0m to £1.7m, while expenses were down £2.3m (3%).
#RangersFC revenue decrease was driven by match day, which dropped £17.5m (49%) from £35.7m to £18.2m, though there was growth in broadcasting, which rose £5.3m (39%) from £13.5m to £18.9m, and commercial, up £0.9m (9%) from £9.8m to £10.7m.

#CelticFC 2020/21 accounts cover a “most difficult financial year”, badly impacted by COVID. Also disappointing on the pitch, as they finished runners-up in the league, were knocked out of both domestic cup competitions in early stages and eliminated after Europa League group.
#CelticFC swung from £0.1m pre-tax profit to £11.5m loss (£12.6m after tax), as revenue fell £9m (13%) from £70m to £61m and profit on player sales fell £15m from £24m to £9m, partly offset by £5m other income (business interruption coverage) and £9m (9%) reduction in expenses.
#CelticFC revenue “attrition” was driven by match day, which dropped £15.0m (42%) from £35.8m to £20.8m, and broadcasting, down £2.4m (18%) from £13.7m to £11.3m, though the net effect was eased by commercial, which rose ££7.9m (38%) from £20.8m to £28.7m.

One unusual @CelticFC history story features the circus.

In 1893 it was advertised that a team of "past & present" Celtic players would participate in a tour of Scotland as part of @CircusGinnett shows.

They would play 6-a-side games versus local teams.

1/9

#celtic #celticfc
There is some dubiety about these claims.

Certainly some people involved had played for @CelticFC but many hadn't.

It's unlikely Celtic even knew about this, even if all circus adverts said it was an official team. Nowadays litigation would stop such claims!

2/9

#celticfc
The only notable former @CelticFC player to be involved was the circus team captain, "General McLaren".

James (Jimmy) McClaren played for Celtic in the 1880s/1890s. His nickname was the "Ould Gineral (or General)".

A fascinating insight into @CelticFC supporters' clubs in the past.

These are the 1960s membership rules for the @DundeeCeltic Travel Club (likely similar to when it was formed in 1948).

Very strange seeing rules against women members.

1/7

@csasocialclub #celtic #celticfc
The rules are the same type you'd find in any private members' club at the time.

As member of the @csasocialclub, they would likely have been repeated by other @CelticFC supporters' clubs.

This includes a commitment to be non-political and non-sectarian.

Other rules describe disciplinary and general membership procedures, or outline the process of electing office bearers.

Now that all the clubs in the Scottish Premiership have finally published their accounts for the 2019/20 season, here is an overview of their financials, which were adversely impacted by the season’s early closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic #spfl
Most Scottish Premiership clubs aim for break-even with 5 making small profits, led by Hearts £0.5m and Motherwell £0.3m. #RangersFC £17.5m post-tax loss is the big outlier, especially compared to #CelticFC £0.4m deficit, largely due to their recent investment in the squad.
However, it is worth noting that #CelticFC were boosted by £24m profit from player sales, largely due to Kieran Tierney’s move to Arsenal, which was significantly higher than other Scottish clubs. The next highest were Kilmarnock £1.2m, Motherwell £1.0m and #RangersFC £0.7m.

Nowadays it's easy to listen to Celtic songs between streaming music, CDs and sites like YouTube.

But in the past it was harder to do so. In the 1990s, various CDs were released with famous @CelticFC songs.

This thread looks at some of those CDs.

#celtic #celticfc #celticsongs
The first CD release in the 1990s available in the @CelticFC shops (that I remember) was 'The Celtic Songs EP'.

Released in 1994, it featured four songs:

The Celtic Song
The Johnny Thompson Song
The Fields of Athenry
You'll Never Walk Alone

#celtic #celticfc #celticsongs
This CD was followed in 1995 by 'The 2nd Celtic Songs EP'.

This had the @CelticFC first team from different years (1964, 1970, 1977) singing songs:

Over and Over
Celtic are here
Celtic, Celtic

Jimmy Johnstone also sang 'Passing Time'.

I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him.

#CelticFC is at one of those moments.

It's lost.

Here is what's it needs to do to.

But first I do want to praise Peter. He has dedicated his career to his club and passion. He has limitations but

he is indeed an honourable man.
Celtic today has no "why", no "meaning"

It's potentially a world class brand with a unique diaspora that has done no work in this area. Probably coz Dermot hasn't asked for it.

The community doesnt know who we are and where we are going. And in that vacuum comes negativity.
We are anti tory, anti Israel, anti rangers!

We are better than that.

But none is explaining what we are actually for.

This needs addressed immediately. Ideally by our leader speaking like Marc Anthony.

I warn you Dermott, you are a hairs breadth away from Glazer Kroenke

Celtic’s 2019/20 accounts cover a season when Scottish football was ended early in March due to COVID-19, though they were declared champions for the 9th consecutive season based on average points. They also reached the last 32 of Europa League. Some thoughts follow #CelticFC
Due to COVID, #CelticFC pre-tax profit dropped from £11.3m to £0.1m, as revenue fell £13m (16%) from £83m to £70m, offset by £6m increase in profit on player sales to £24m and £4m reduction in expenses. However, no repeat of prior season’s £9m compensation for Brendan Rodgers.
All three #CelticFC revenue streams were lower, especially match day, which fell £7.5m (17%) from £43.3m to £35.8m. Commercial dropped £3.6m (15%) from £24.4m to £20.8m, while broadcasting was also down £2.0m (13%) from £15.7m to £13.7m.

I had a few requests to prepare some more financial fact sheets for: (a) the two major Scottish clubs, namely Celtic and Rangers; (b) and Swansea City. Hope you find them useful #CelticFC #RangersFC #Swans
#CelticFC have been profitable for the last 4 years, helped by good profits from player sales. Revenue fell in 2019, due to not qualifying for Champions League group stage. Low debt, high cash balance, declining net transfer spend. Highest revenue, wages and profit in Scotland.
#RangersFC have lost money in last 5 years, partly due to low profits from player sales. However, revenue has more than tripled since 2015, driven by improved performance in Europe. Largest loss, debt and transfer spend in Scotland in 2019. Wages up to £34m (65% of turnover).

Thanks to my good chum @BillRockSport for pointing me to the publication of #DundeeFC accounts yesterday. Income up 12.5% in what was a fairly good season for most Scottish clubs, whose total income of other 8 who've reported was less than that of #CelticFC
Main cost for clubs is wages & #DundeeFC had 7.4% increase. Paying £78 wages for every £100 of income. Speaking to @Deloitte recently & they said UEFA is concerned at any club where wages/income is greater than 70% so all clubs in SFL okay apart from Dundee & #RangersFC
#DundeeFC made losses of £18,000 a week last season pre player sales, which reduced losses by £530k. Most clubs lose money in SPFL & rely on owners and occasional player sales to underwrite the losses

As the Champions League reaches the last 16 and the Europa League the last 32, I took a quick look at the latest available revenue and wages data for those clubs still in the competition. Some analysis in the following thread.
Five clubs in Champions League last 16 have over half a billion revenue, led by the Spanish giants: Real Madrid £665m, Barcelona £612m, #MUFC £590m, Bayern Munich £557m & #MCFC £500m. Other English clubs: #LFC £455m & #THFC £379m. Lowest revenue by far at Ajax £81m & Porto £94m.
Barcelona £431m and Real Madrid £350m again have the highest wage bills (even after excluding other sports), followed by #MUFC £296m. Then come 3 clubs in a narrow range: Bayern Munich £268m, #LFC £263m and #MCFC £260m. #THFC £127m is 2016/17 figure. Ajax wages only £47m.
