Our body works very similar to a thermostat, where you have a temperature sensor measuring the temperature and a controller comparing the measured temperature with the desired temperature eventually activating a heating or cooling device.

The body has 2 types of thermoreceptors:
1) Peripheral ones in our skin and viscera
2) Central sensors in our brain (hypothalamus)
Neurons are transporting the information to our thermoregulatory center, the preoptic area (PAO).

1/11 Jak je možné, že vydržíme v sauně, kde je teplota i vyšší než 100 °C? A jak je možné, že stejně tak vydržíme v kryokomoře, kde je teplota nižší než -100 °C? A to navíc ještě téměř nazí. Jak se liší vnímání teploty vzduchu? #teplota #sauna #vlhkost
2/11 Odpovědí na otázky výše je vlhkost vzduchu. Pokud je vlhkost velmi nízká, tolerujeme teplotní extrémy výrazně lépe. Abychom krátkodobě vydrželi extrémní horko či chlad, musí být vzduchu velmi suchý. Vzduch totiž není, na rozdíl od vody, příliš dobrým vodičem tepla.
3/11 To známe i z praxe. Teploty kolem bodu mrazu tolerujeme všichni, ale málokdo je schopný pobývat ve vodě, která má teplotu blízko 0 °C. A i ti, co to dokáží, nevydrží ve vodě zdaleka tak dlouho, jako na vzduchu o totožné teplotě. Tělo se ochlazuje ve vodě výrazně rychleji.
