#ironic really when I have to watch people like @totalcrime Mr Chris Summers who has the audacity to rt this that talks of what those do not want you to know when this vile little man not only talked with me over the phone a number of times to where we
were even going to meet up, who even attended the @INQUEST_ORG who was #reporting on #myson #AmbroseGGBall case, who heard all that we had seen on #ccvfootage, who saw the so called fake set up #accident scene, who knew of all the attacks on my child just before he Image
went @missingpeople never to be seen alive ever again.

This is the same #vile little man who attempted to humiliate me .

Who was misleading the #publicengagement with statements such as implying that we only started questioning my sons death after we viewed the body 3 months ImageImage

The platform design team @MichaelLHamilt3 of @KatzPittBiz and @alexdc_info of @WUSTL DCDS designed a non-linear badge system for completing #412Connect challenges. Ivy Chang of @PittEcon worked with @PittStudents and @PittHonors to offer badge conversions to OCC credit.

We are starting our Christmas Countdown a little early this year with the A-Z of @drakonheritage #ChristmasIsComing #ChristmasCountdown
First up. A is for Archaeology. Our year has been full of many great objects from the field. Swords, brooches, lots of iron and so many coins... #ArchaeologicalConservation #Archaeology
B is for Broken. This Anglo-Saxon vessel was hit by a plough. By re-joining the fragments we can appreciate its form but I loved seeing the repairs made in the past. What a valued object this must have been to someone. What stories it could tell. #conservation #ChristmasCountdown Riveted repair inside the c...Vessel before conservation....Vessel after conservation. ...

A new research study in @bmj_latest doi.org/10.1136/bmj.m3… finds the risk to die early (<70yrs) increases with irregularity & length of women’s #menstrualcycle irregularity, with premature mortality mostly due to #cardiovasculardisease. What's it mean for women with #PCOS? 1/13
PCOS affects 10% of women worldwide & irregular menstrual cycles are a common symptom. Many of the women in this study likely have PCOS. Understandably, the higher rates of premature mortality reported will be worrying to women with PCOS. But what causes period irregularity? 2/13
Increased levels of male hormones #androgens are a cause of irregular periods (see: doi.org/10.1177/204201…; doi.org/10.1210/en.201…) and also impact on pancreatic beta cell function (doi.org/10.2337/db20-0…) causing #insulinresistance 3/13

[Day4: Strengths & Limits of #SciComm forms, media, & spaces]
It's theory vs practice day!

There are loads of resources out there for #BestPractices. Today, let's discuss the strengths & limitations YOU've found in trying #STEM #storytelling, #comedy, #SciArt, #digital, & more!
I'll start w/ my favorite resources: @edbeltane & @OliverEscobar's "Public Dialogue & Delibration" & #WendyFaulkner's "Dialogue in #PublicEngagement" handbooks.

How do participant #communication styles impede/help your purpose, eg. #dialogue vs #debate?
beltanenetwork.org/DialogueTheory…
These have been crucial in my understanding of #experiencedesign when creating events or experiences for diverse #scicomm audiences & participants.

There's a purpose for panels and debates. But also a reason why they fail in "changing minds" or creating power-balanced convos.

[Day3: Creating & Sustaining Spaces of Practice]
Q: Have you created or been part of initiatives for #Science #STEM #STEAM #SciComm practice? Are you considering creating one yourself?

Today we'll discuss "safe spaces to fail" and scaffolded experiences to build up your skills!
Why do I care?
As a former academic & now in my work to spread adaptable skills in #scicomm through #comedy, it strikes me how little prep we get to teach or give strategic talks as we make the shift from undergrad to grad levels

How many bad habits do we accumulate b/c of this?
What are some bad communication habits in #Science #STEM you've seen, experienced, or are still working to overcome?

Here's where I used to struggle:
- preparing talks the night before
- going over time
- imagining the audience wasn't even there
- bad PPTs
- STAGE FRIGHT

[New Curator, Who Dis?]
A lil more about my #science background: I'm a former #physicalanthropologist who studied the Indonesian "hobbit" species #Homofloresiensis. I also taught dissection-based human gross anatomy and excavated w/ friends in #Atapuerca #PinilladelValle Spain.
My #SciComm training started w/ the @AldaCenter using acting-based #improv to finetune my sense of creating together w/ others & actively listening. Then I took a career pivot towards taking my MSc in #SciComm & #PublicEngagement at @EdinburghUni w/c led me to @BrightClubEDN!

Are you a #scientist trying to write up your #publicengagement or #rri work for publication? Some thoughts (a thread)
Most of the papers I review are either incredibly dense with theory and mathematical jargon, or treated as a chance to show off about a fun thing you did. I'd like to make the case that something in between these is needed.
When papers are swamped in technical language, it can give the impression that the writer has quite a limited point of view on what is publishable and possibly is uncertain of the validity of the approach they took.
