It is well known that in war, the first casualty is truth – that during any war truth is forsaken for propaganda. But sanity was a prior casualty: it was the loss of sanity that led to war in the first place.

Our foreign policy has been insane for decades. It was only a matter of time until Americans would have to suffer personally for it. It is a terrible tragedy of life that the innocent so often have to suffer for the sins of the guilty.

Maj. George Armistead commissioned Mary Young Pickersgill, a professional flag maker from Baltimore, Maryland, to make a garrison flag measuring 30 by 42 feet with 15 stars and 15 stripes in 1813. She would make a smaller 17 by 25 foot flag as well.

1/3 Today, we gather here to honor the fallen of 9/11, to remember and reflect, and to reaffirm our resolve to support and defend the Constitution, the idea and reality that is America for which those brave souls gave their last full measure of devotion.
2/3 So let us resolve, let us resolve here yet again today to never forget those who were murdered by terrorists. Never forget those who rushed to save lives and gave theirs.
3/3 Never forget the sons and daughters, brothers and sisters, mothers and fathers, who gave their tomorrows for our todays. Honor them. Honor them today and forever and honor the cause they served.

We will #NeverForget seeing those towers fall, and smoke and ash stain what was once a bright sky. In these last 17 years, the initial shock of #September11th may have worn off – but families affected, and our nation as a whole, face the aftershocks every day.
Today is, and must always be, a day of remembrance. Let us remember the mothers & fathers, brothers & sisters, friends & colleagues we lost. And let us never forget the unity that brought us together in the wake of such evil. #Sept11
But let’s also act on our shared responsibility to look out for each other, to work together, and to do everything we can to to defend the American values that were attacked that day, and ensure that all Americans can live, learn, work and worship without fear. #PatriotDay
To the people who went up. The people who ran forward. The people who signed up. The people who didn't come back at all or the same. The people who respond first. The people who wear our uniform around the world. The people who are their families and loved ones. /1
