They flew right through the #ADIZ that the media get their bloomers in a bunch about when the Russians fly antiques through, and VIOLATED American and Canadian airspace, which the Russians never do, and the Chinese continue to do; did I get that right? What a bunch of bullsh!t.
I suspect the #USAF are flying their own spy drones over China on the regular, without the public's knowledge, in full view of the Chinese military, and they're terrified the Chinese will start shooting them out of the sky if they shoot down the balloon.

Canada deserves a good score because of its private sector, but the federal government's policies and direction of cyber defense is ad hoc, shallow, and broadly lacks coherent direction or recognition of cyberspace as a threat environment.
There is a lot to discuss, but I'll focus on cloud networking.
On paper there is a lot of good that Canada has planned, it is working towards a classified defense cloud network in the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), but last I heard the estimate for delivery/completion is 2030.

Journalists are regularly fed bad info by their trusted sources who want to mislead them and spin the story, so I can hardly blame @JohnMooneyST who did his due diligence. The Flight Information Region #FIR is the correct term, the international airspace controlled by Irish ATC.
Sovereign Irish airspace extends 12 Nautical Miles out to sea, the flight information region #FIR extends hundreds of miles out to sea. #NORAD is much more diligent in explaining that difference, as they do in the linked PDF below, from a few years back.
