Dehumanizing and coercive in and of itself. It’s been incredibly painful and I’m personally really struggling. But I want to make a broader point. This pro-MAiD advocate isn’t just a “friend” who I’ve trusted with my heart and what’s going on my health before I knew this abt her.
I am also somewhat dependent on her. She’s the only local friend who has stuck around through Covid precautions and me being disabled due to pain. She does a lot of things for me with her car that I’m not sure what I’m going to do without. And THIS…

Here's some common phrases that perpetuate #ableism... Especially because these terms/words are commonly used as "disses" or something negative.

It's really quite simple. She's the fucking CDC director. If one of the most important and powerful science communicators on the planet meant something else, she could say that.

If she meant something else, she could communicate that, in so many different ways- tweets, statements, interviews..... She has a lot of options.
If she meant something else, she should have the training to understand why the actual words out of her mouth would make some people feel dehumanized, and/or terrified, and/or hurt, and/or angry, etc. And then choose better words.
In remarks reminiscent of the darkest days of the #eugenics movement, @CDCDirector said that the fact that #COVID19 predominantly kills people who are “unwell to begin with” is “encouraging.”

When my ex (who I was with for 10 years) broke up with me, the underlying reason why was cuz we weren’t a “normal couple” anymore. I.e. he saw my somewhat newly chronically ill/disabled self as not normal.

That was the first time I deeply understood in a gut-wrenching, beyond heartbreaking way that even the people who you thought loved & cared about you the most will dehumanize you and deem you “disposable.”
