Ghalib’s father, Mirza Abdullah Beg Khan, died in 1803 when Ghalib was only five. For a few years after his father’s death, his uncle, Mirza Nasrullah Beg, who was commander of Agra Fort under the Marathas, took care of him and his siblings. They had a good life.

Two friends met after five years. One has become a poet & an aficionado of literature. The other has become a businessman. They were happy upon sharing their experiences, they have had in past years. Poet, being excited to share his knowledge, asked his friend to say 'shayaris'.
Businessman: It's not my bailiwick; I couldn't know more except GST in past quinquennium.
Poet: I can understand but try to say something in response; let's go one-on-one.
Businessman: Ok.
Poet: Lemme share few shayaris of #MirzaGhalib.
Businessman: Go ahead!

During the mutiny he gave up the use of the titles which had been bestowed on him by the Mughal court. He also wrote a number of qasidas in praise of the British rulers: one addressed to Lord Hardinge on the conquest of the Punjab (regretting that his old age did not allow....
