Are you feeling overwhelmed by the constant news of Black people being murdered by police and vigilantes and other acts of racial violence? You're not alone. It's important to recognize the toll this takes on our mental health and well-being. #racialtrauma #mentalhealth a 🧵
Research shows that exposure to repeated acts of racial violence can cause symptoms of stress, trauma and anxiety, such as flashbacks, nightmares, & hypervigilance. It's crucial to take steps to manage these feelings & prioritize self-care. #mentalhealthawareness #selfcaretaking
Coping with racial stress & trauma requires intentional efforts to protect yourself from overwhelming news coverage. Consider taking breaks from the news and setting boundaries around social media use. Set firm boundaries w/others around their mentions of it. #mentalwellness

@WorldofGoodBook Thanks for sharing @WorldofGoodBook

As we’ve debated this before, you already know my views on this. The BMC study summary you have seems right. MHFA role is neither to diagnose or treat. But to offer support.

I’ve got a long thread coming up in response. @JayneHarrison3
@WorldofGoodBook @JayneHarrison3 1). MHFA is not a stopgap solution and should stop being rendered as a tick box exercise. To cater for the #mentalwellbeing of people, a holistic approach needs to be implemented like i stated in my article. Much like your position that employee benefits should be holistic.
@WorldofGoodBook @JayneHarrison3 2). MHFA is meant to be a supportive role. Not a diagnostic or prescriptive one. They are trained to recognise good mental health risk factors and protective factors and work to implement protective factors in the workplace.

Thread: This week @traversepeople interviewed people about their experiences of healthcare during #Covid19 to understand how non-covid specific care was being affected. Full report out next week, but some initial findings here:
The primary reason people are avoiding seeking care (and they are avoiding it, even for conditions as serious as stroke) is that they don't want to be a burden to the NHS. Fear of contracting coronavirus was a secondary concern for almost everyone we spoke to. #NHS
Communication is crucial to the experience of care. The people we spoke to understand why care is disrupted and are prepared to wait, but not knowing when to expect more information causes anxiety and a feeling of being "at their mercy" #mentalwellbeing #shareddecisionmaking

#mentalwellbeing in the time of #coronavirus
#thread Here are few things I am doing while in #selfquarantine. You might be doing some or all of this already. Bear with me.
1) Exercise. Do find a corner in your house and ensure you sweat it out for at least an hour.
2) You might be at home for a while, so try and form a routine. Eating at the same time, sleeping at the same time etc. Routine lends a sense of purpose to slower days.

3) Try and do your chores yourself. Do ask your help to refrain from commuting and do ensure they get paid for the days they stay at home.
