Heute ist #EarthDay2022, es ist der 52. "Earth Day". An keinem Ereignis lassen sich Grundprobleme der Umwelt- und Klimadebatten besser darstellen. Deshalb hier ein paar Schlaglichter ⤵️
Am ersten „Earth Day“, dem 22.4.1970 (Symbolfoto war „Earth Rise“⤴️), protestierten in den USA in Hunderten Städten 20 Millionen Menschen, es war die Geburt der globalen Graswurzelbewegungen für Umweltschutz. Sie war dringend notwendig.
Smog in Großstädten, Ölkatastrophen, Müllberge in der Natur, Artensterben, Waljagd, Gifte auf Feldern und Wiesen – gravierende Umweltprobleme waren schon lange nicht mehr zu verleugnen. Die Graswurzelbewegungen hatten bald Erfolg.
