In 2012, the almost-complete skeleton of a new kind of #dinosaur was found in the northern Patagonia region of #Argentina.

I've just been looking at Big Sara, the privately owned #Allosaurus skeleton (genuine fossil, not a cast) currently on show at Westquay Shopping Centre, #Southampton. What a spectacular specimen! Here are some thoughts... #dinosaurs #fossils
I've heard some concerns about the displaying of this genuine fossil in a food court. I have no idea how the specimen is faring in terms of pyrite decay and so on but...
... it's not in an environment that will contribute to decay. Indoor spaces like this are, in the UK, not humid, but cool and airy. Big Sara is in a big open space close to a giant window. Moving to anatomy...

Freshwater kicks off in north-east Asia (a location consistent with the geology, climate and animals we show) with a spectacular waterfall connected to canyons. Juvenile #pterosaurs - they're young #azhdarchids - have gathered here to roost... #PrehistoricPlanet
We know essentially nothing of the roosting or resting habits of #azhdarchids but see it as likely that they would have gathered in numbers (fossil evidence does show that they were social) in places that predators couldn't easily get to. Hat-tip to discussion with @MarkWitton ..

Deserts kicks off in western South America on an arid plain where a mass gathering of the giant #titanosaur #Dreadnoughtus have gathered to display and compete for mates. Dreadnoughtus, from Argentina, was named in 2014 by @kenlacovara [shown in photo!] and colleagues...
The idea that sauropods might have gathered and competed is based on behaviour seen in modern birds, mammals and other animals. Remember that events like this MUST have happened in the past, as they do today...

... sure yet. we went on (1) till Dolavon, they turn left looking for promising land. till (2). First we found some dino footprints(3). they were pretty fresh for animals supposedly extinct ten of millions of years ago! we knew we were on something big there!...

Several hadrosaurs have been found with serious, oval shaped injuries to the tall spines along the tops of their tail. Some paleontologists have suggested that these are from unsuccessful attacks by tyrannosaurs. But are they?1/11

The two best specimens are a Brachylophosaurus (JRF1002) and an Edmontosaurus (DMNH1493) with strikingly similar injuries. In both cases the bones had begun healing after the injury occurred, so while these may have contributed to the animals deaths they likely weren't the cause.
Both genera were predated on by large tyrannosaurs, so it's possible that these were bite marks from attacks that ended with the hadrosaur managing to escape. Indeed, the shape and size would be roughly congruent with a bite mark from the local tyrannosaur genera.

So the truth of the matter is I've ALWAYS loved dinosaurs.
Ever since I was a little kid, @Soundsaboutleft and I used to pretend to be dinosaurs.
I'd played a T-Rex and he'd pretend to be a magical dinosaur that stole your allowance and hogged the NES.

I can say that one of the biggest thrills I ever had back when was meeting my childhood hero. Dr. Sherman.
He was at a dig site and he'd found a new raptor. One that wasn't a bitch ass velociraptor. Those things are glorified turkeys with claws.
