Today an influential but sadly flawed 'consensus' pours water on adverse #BrainHealth risk and #neurodegenerative disease/ #dementia in former contact sport athletes.

Meanwhile ⬇️
"But it's a consensus of experts!"

Nobody can be an expert on everything, not even #CISG

Recognising this, Statement authors commissioned reviews by selected specialist 'expert' authors to review literature*, led by small subgroups of #CISG panel

1/ Image
These sub-groups then fed back outcomes from the review processes, which wider Statement authors voted on, so producing 'consensus' positions.

What does this mean?

It means that for late effects, by example, only 7/31 Statement authors actually reviewed the literature

🧠🔍1/12 Michael J Fox has it, the late Muhammad Ali had it, Billy Connolly has it and 60,000 new cases of Parkinson's disease are being diagnosed every year in the US. If you want to avoid adding your name to that list, there's one thing you should do: don't eat seed oils. Image
📜2/12 James Parkinson first described this condition in his 1817 paper on shaking palsy. Born on April 11, 1755, that's why April 11 is now World Parkinson's Day. Dr. Parkinson outlined a disease causing involuntary tremors, rigidity, slowness of movement, and more.
🧠3/12 Parkinson's is caused by the death of cells in our pars compacta, which controls motor function. When working well, it uses dopamine to control our movement, attention, learning, and reward-seeking. Damage to dopamine-producing neurons results in Parkinson's disease.

I teach people how to use a ketogenic diet to help with mood and cognitive dysfunction. But that is just the first phase in my online program toward their recovery. (1/10)
Phase 2 consists of teaching people how to do a nutrigenomics analysis for truly personalized supplementation. What is nutrigenomics and why do I think this step is important? (2/10)
Nutrigenomics explores how your genes interact with different foods and nutrients. It can inform you if you may benefit from different types, forms of supplements that improve mitochondrial function. (3/10)

Let's explore the outcomes of a study that explored the neurobiological evidence in support of improvement in depression with a ketogenic diet and find out what underlying biological mechanisms they uncovered through in vitro and in vivo studies.🧵(1/29) #depression #ketogenic
Basically, they did a literature review from August 2021 to January 2022. Here's what they found. (2/29) #research
People with #depression may have changes in #glucose #metabolism in the brain. The #ketogenic diet boosts cellular #energy metabolism by raising #ketone bodies and replacing glucose as the main fuel source. (3/29)

Many people believe that a ketogenic diet doesn't work for everyone, and this has been the experience of @GeorgiaEdeMD in clinical practice. (1/6)
@GeorgiaEdeMD However, after practicing psychiatry for 15-16 years, she reports has never seen any other intervention with as much power as a ketogenic diet. (2/6)
@GeorgiaEdeMD She explains in her most recent video with @Metabolic_Mind that medications are designed to address one piece of the puzzle, such as a neurotransmitter imbalance, but the #ketogenic diet addresses multiple root causes of #brainhealth problems. (3/6)

This is a good time to redirect frustration and pain onto creative outlets and prayer.

By all means, do your online activism.

But balance that out with self-care Address your mental, spiritual and emotional needs.

Self-neglect will not solve the problem.

Some Tips ⬇️
#MentalHealthMatters

Look for signs of burnout (use Google) and assess yourself honestly

Whilst your voice matters, so too does your spirit.

Take a break from Twitter to recharge for a few days.

You can continue supporting your cause in other ways.
Redirect the brain to different activities for a change. Art, games on your phone, deep breathing, music.

This isn't escapism. Some of the best ideas come when we're in the middle of doing something unrelated. (Like Archimedes shouting EUREKA! In his bathtub)

The #research reveals unexpected gene-networks, previously known to be involved in ciliary pathways, underlie #structural and #functional integrity of mature neurons in the healthy adult brain.

Given that the elaborate #dendrites & spines enable a neuron’s physical and electrical connectivity in a #neural circuit, alteration in the structure disrupts neuronal function, affecting the circuits and #cognition. 3/7

Monogenic parkinsonisms are very different from one another. Not only on the severity of parkinsonism, but also on cognition, behavioral, and autonomic function.
(See a nice review ⬇️ sciencedirect.com/science/articl…)
A critical marker of disability is postural instability🚶➡️🧑‍🦯➡️🧑‍🦽, which leads to falls, and increased morbidity and mortality. The frequency and time-to postural instability in different monogenic parkinsonisms remained unknown.
