The unjust execution of the #GOMBURZA in 1872 opened the eyes of Filipinos to the rampant abuse & corruption of the Spanish colonial regime against Filipinos. Fr. Jacinto Zamora, the youngest of the 3, lost his mind prior to being executed.
Jacinto's nephew, Paulino, harbored resentment vs. the oppression. Discontented w/ the religion of the friars, he began to smuggle Spanish Bibles w/c were forbidden at the time. During #PH Revolution in 1896, he was arrested & exiled to Chafarinas Islands in the Mediterranean.
#TodayinHistory in 1875, Marina Dizon, secretary of the women's chapter of the #Katipunan, is born in Trozo, #Binondo #Manila #PH. Her long life was devoted to one thing, the freedom of the Filipino people. (THREAD)
Context: Marina Dizon y Batolome was the daughter of Jose Dizon, one of the 13 martyrs (Trece Martires) of Bagumbayan, executed by Spanish authorities on 11 January 1897. She was also a cousin of Emilio Jacinto, one of the high officers of the underground Katipunan.
One night in 1893, Marina, accompanied by Jacinto, and in the presence of Gregoria de Jesus, Josefa & Trinidad Rizal, & nieces Angelica Lopez & Delfin Herbosa (the latter was one of the 3 seamstresses of #PH flag), became a member of the Katipunan.
