2/6 #BOUasm21 Barcelona hosts one of the biggest populations of monk parakeets in Europe. We surveyed the opinion of people in Barcelona in relation to parakeets with two surveys separated by 15 years (2001&2016; N=4860). Information campaigns were carried out during this period.

1 #BOUASM21 Reversing the last 50 years of habitat degradation may not be sufficient to restore declining bird populations in Europe. The reason for this is that some other - often neglected - factors may be interacting with habitat degradation.
2 #BOUASM21 Overabundant generalist predators are a plausible barrier to reversing declines. We test if nesting strategy (a proxy for predation risk; ground-nesting birds are more vulnerable to generalist predators than other birds) influences breeding bird population trends.
3 #BOUASM21 We found that the probability of population decline in ground-nesting birds was 40% more likely than other birds. The strength of this effect was modulated by predator community complexity, farming intensity and predator control.
