2. #Russia has security concerns. I agree. History and geography necessitates they are going to be wary of being attacked, particularly across the North European Plain.
3. But if you want to keep your neighbors out of a rival alliance, invading, seizing territories, ignoring security guarantees previously given, interfering with their internal affairs, and massing hundreds of thousands of troops on their borders doesn't seem like the best method

#OTD vor 79 Jahren, am 20. Mai 1941, begann Unternehmen Merkur: Die deutsche Landung auf #Kreta. Hier ein Foto meines Großvaters im Transportflieger. Sein bester Freund und Mann seiner späteren Frau wird an diesem Tag fallen. 
Zur Einleitung ein kurzer Blick zurück in das Jahr 1938. Mein Großvater Wilhelm tritt dem #Gebirgsjäger-Regiment 100 in Berchtesgaden bei, wird später Unteroffizier. Die „schönste Kaserne des Reiches“ beherbergt heute das Gebirgsjägerbataillon 232.
Dort lernt er seinen zukünftigen besten Freud Franz kennen. Dieser ist verheiratet mit Karoline, hier beide auf dem 🛷 vorne (Die Dame neben Opa kenne ich nicht 😗). Nun, das wird später relevant.

As the #Slavic-speaking area expanded during the first millennium CE (striped area on map), Proto-Slavic transitioned to Common Slavic. The #language underwent minor changes that occurred mostly uniformly across eastern #Europe, thereby maintaining mutual intelligibility.
Around the year 1000 CE #CommonSlavic began to split into the South, West, and East branches to which all modern #Slavic #languages belong.
Roughly 315m people speak a Slavic #language, mostly in Eastern #Europe (including the #Balkan peninsula), #CentralAsia, and #Siberia.
