We're at a global inflection point when it comes to technology.

And if we want to build a vibrant and secure tech future, then we can't go it alone.

Let me tell you how we’re working with allies and partners to harness tech for good. 🧵 First, we’re harnessing technology for the betterment not just of our people and our friends, but all of humanity.

And we’re using diplomacy to internationalize and institutionalize our vision of “tech for good.”

My remarks at @SAISHopkins: We find ourselves at another hinge point in history grappling with the fundamental question of strategy as Nitze defined it: “How do we get from where we are to where we want to be, without being struck by disaster along the way?” What we are experiencing now is more than a test of the post-Cold War order. It’s the end of it. Decades of relative geopolitical stability have given way to an intensifying competition with authoritarian, revisionist powers.

Exactly nine months ago, I arrived for my first day as Secretary. That day I committed to leave behind a @StateDept ready to meet the tests of the 21st century– an even stronger, more effective, more agile, more diverse institution that can lead America’s engagement in the world. For the past several months, we have conducted an intense review of @StateDept and consulted with our workforce. We have a window before us to make historic, lasting change and we’re determined to seize it. Today, we are ready to share the five pillars of our plan.

U.S. military flights have ended and our troops have departed Afghanistan. A new chapter of America’s engagement with Afghanistan has begun. It’s one in which we will lead with our diplomacy. As of today, we have suspended our diplomatic presence in Kabul and transferred our operations to Doha, Qatar. For the time being, we will use this post in Doha to manage our diplomacy with Afghanistan.
