The site of Tepe Narenj, which literally means “orange hill”, stands on a relief that is currently denoted as Koh-e Zamburak, or “mountain of the small wasp”, situated on the eastern slopes of the #Hindukush mountain chain, only a few kilometers South of #Kabul #Afghanistan 
so far only partially investigated, it covers an area of more than four hectares and occupies a dominant position; it faces East and is quite visible from a considerable distance. The site has earlier origins, dated by pottery, paleographic and numismatic finds to the 2nd-3rd CE
the period most intensively documented in the excavations, during which the sacred area was reworked, renovated and extended several times, dates to between the end of the 5th century CE and the 9th/10th century CE.

They ranged from Kurkihara bronzes (best in the world) to large&small stone exquisite sculptures of #Buddha #Bodhisatvas #Mahavir #Jain tirthankaras, Queens, Kings & commoners, but less textiles. Of course, the rich #PatnaSchoolpaintings are treasured here. Pics1-3 are from there
The other photos are of the first #narrative and #interpretive #museum on the life of Buddha. It was opened in 2013 at the #BuddhaSmritiPark (Buddha Memorial Park). It’s at the site of Patna’s old #Bankipore jail, and now is one of the most peaceful place in this chaotic city
This Stupa is basically a pointed arch(lotus petal) rotated about its axis. Niche is typical Indian pointed arch.

one is octagonal Makara arch in which Garuda is shown devouring Naga. Arch is semi octagonal in form and decorated with elaborate foliage pattern of Angkor type emanating from Makara(s).

The measurements of arch conform to measurements of Manasara(classic Indian architectural texts) according to which height of arch should be 3part and that of pilasters 5 parts. On pilaster carved are two elephant again conforming to Manasara texts.
