The 2020 Hate Crime Summit brought together members of the community, religious leaders, community leaders, and our law enforcement partners to discuss hate crimes, hate incidents and what defines both. #SheriffV
As I stated tonight, hate crimes and incidents cannot and will not be tolerated in our community. @LASDHQ remains committed to the safety and security of the 42 contract cities and 153 unincorporated communities we provide law enforcement services to.
As your sheriff, I want you to be assured that the LASD continues to maintain specific guidelines to combat hate crimes and hate incidents.
Today, I made sure my voice was heard because I voted! After the press conference w/@LACountyRRCC announcing the #WeAllCount pilot program, I cast my #vote using the mobile ballot marking devices on-site. The process was very easy to follow & only took a few minutes to complete.
The #WeAllCount pilot program is aimed at encouraging eligible inmates to exercise their right to vote. They were given the opportunity to use the electronic mobile machines to register to vote and submit their ballot on issues that affect themselves and their families. #SheriffV

This morning, we attended Christmas Mass with the Archbishop of Los Angeles, Jose Gomez at Men’s Central Jail. Thank you to the Arch Bishop for presiding over this morning’s mass and helping us all come together for this annual tradition.

This morning’s media open house highlighted the strides we have made as a department and the obstacles we have overcome. To recap, I’d like to point out the #LASD’S achievements this year. 1st, violent crimes across @CountyofLA are down 15.15%. #SheriffV
2nd ICE transfers are down 53%, keeping true to my campaign promise that I would remove the ICE agents from our facilities. Jail violence has also decreased, despite the rise in in our inmate population.
3rd recruitment is up, a total 65% increase over the previous 4 year average. As Captain McBride stated, we achieved this by changing our culture. We seek qualified candidates but no longer treat them like criminals; a practice which previously dissuaded most from applying.
At the 33rd Annual 999 for Kids, LASD Special Victims Bureau, @FIDM and @lacountydcfs came together with volunteers from within and outside of the department to deliver extra support & cheer to kids from our communities.

After lunch, provided by @McDonalds , the kids and their families had a chance to play in our snow area, munched on popcorn served by our LASD Grizzlies, visited our petting zoo and participated in many activities.
Kids are the real super heroes in disguise, and my hope is that they remember they will always have our support!
Today I visited @TheLAMission in Los Angeles during their annual Thanksgiving meal. Before meeting with the volunteers on the food line, Vice President of Program, Steven Schultze provided a tour of the facility.

Yesterday I took a short trip to Catalina Island to visit with @AvalonLASD. The scenery all around was beautiful, but more importantly I was able to get a first-hand understanding of how we are ensuring public safety for the residents & tourists on the island. #SheriffV

(1/3)Today we laid to rest Deputy Joseph Solano. Tragically, his life was cut short by a senseless act of violence. I’d like to again express my deepest condolences to his family as they continue mourn through this difficult time.
(2/3)As we brought Deputy Solano into the cathedral this morning, I was reminded that we must persevere. As unpredictable as these events are, the mission still continues. However, I can assure you that we will never forget Deputy Joseph Solano.

(1/3)The @uspfc games started this weekend in San Diego, giving me the opportunity to compete in the javelin throw representing the #LASD. These games span over a week & offer 54 events for law enforcement and fire athletes to compete in Olympic-style sports.#sheriffv
