It usually focuses on arming individuals with the tools to step in + disrupt situations with a range of resources e.g. the â4 Dsâ - âdirectâ, âdistractâ, âdelayâ and âdelegateâ

We also see it being used in professional training to improve cultures where sexism and racism are an issue. Again, the focus is on speaking up when people see harmful behaviour.

It reminded me of a more senior male doctor who used to repeatedly stand behind me when I was sitting at the desk writing in patients' notes & stroke my hair. It was so distressing but you wouldn't dream of doing anything about it at the time- no one would take you seriously.
That was over 20 years ago & this is the first time I talked about it...

Any one of the typical #MyalgicEncephalomyelitis symptoms, turned up to an 8/10 intensity, would be difficult to live with after awhile. It would wear you down.
By the time you get to 3-4 of these symptoms, itâs debilitating.

I don't always get invested in missing persons cases, but I got invested in the #GabbyPetito one when I saw this. There are so many red flags about the relationship in these 2 minutes, and it was sad to see it written off in the police report as a "mental health crisis." /1
And it's sad even if she hadn't gone missing a couple weeks later. Gabby Petito was upset, but she calmed down over the course of the hourlong footage; the cops just chose to talk to the boyfriend more. /2
I'm not blaming the officers for her going missing--nothing they could've done would've prevented that--although I will criticize them for bro'ing it up with the boyfriend. /3

They literally included perimenopause (pregnancy and lactation) which is KNOWN to have fluctuating hormones and distressing symptoms.

Doing this is (as a very wise hospice doctor advised me not quite 6 years ago) like piloting the Memphis Belle. The plane gets shot up, your crew takes on unpredictable injuries, resources are consumed, difficulties mount. But you've got to pilot it to the best landing you can.
When I learn of someone who is giving care to a person living with #dementia (#Alzheimers is but 1 of a 100+ causes) I tell them it's 1/3 caregiving skills, 1/3 the unique progression of the person living with dementia's illness & 1/3 luck. 2/3rds are not in a caregiver's control
What gets you through years or even decades of this? Curiosity, a willingness to learn, formulating theories or hypotheses, trial & error, flexibility, patience, resilience, some comfort with not being in control, a good sense of humor & sheer tenacity. And adjusting on the fly.
Don't we only address violence against women in #UK by confronting violence built into our society?

Itâs become quite clear that thereâs an undercurrent (sometimes blatant) of sexism through dentistry, and affiliated professions. For dentists thatâs clearly coming from a group of (mainly older) menâŠ
Arguments against this mainly seem to to focus on the idea that the lived experiences of women who have experienced sexism donât count because itâs not science. Beware of discounting lived experiences. It might be your lived experiences that are ignored next.
