2. ...and we are frustrated that we, and many others, have poured countless hours of protest & advocacy into trying to move the provincial government to #Axe8420 and #FundClinicAbortions.
3. The federal grant will not fund the medical services that #Clinic554 provided. But it provides funding to properly research & document abortion barriers in New Brunswick, a province that stubbornly clings to a practice of state misogyny, not least by restricting abortion.
Shame on you, @ShephardDorothy .

1)You are the Minister of Health and should know that Drs do not "perform" medical abortions, they prescribe them.
2)Any Dr willing to do so can prescribe medication abortion and it is completely covered by medicare in NB.

3) Unlike medication abortion, surgical abortions *are* "performed" and cannot be performed by any willing Dr. Even if they could be, they would not be covered by medicare.
4)There are not "multiple" sites for surgical abortion in NB, there are 3. 2 of them are in Moncton.

#Abortion became illegal in Canada when we adopted the Criminal Code from the British (which they never implemented). This happened in 1892. Contraceptives were also prohibited. Regardless of the law, people still had abortions. #cdnpoli
In 1969, Pierre Trudeau’s gov’t allowed abortions within a hospital only if a committee of doctors determined that the pregnancy threatened the life or health of the pregnant person. Access varied. (Language was not gender neutral, adapted for this account).
In that same year Dr Morgentaler opens an abortion clinic. He is charged under the CCC in 1970.
