Please take the time to do this. These bills make @StateDept use diplomatic measures to end the impunity for human rights violations and genocide in Ethiopia.

Our status quo of protecting authoritarian regimes over the basic human rights of the people must end./1
This needs to change, right now, before it is too late to stop the #TigrayGenocide. The peace process is proceeding at a glacial pace AND humanitarian aid is on the table because the @_AfricanUnion, @UN, and @StateDept have all stuck to appeasement.

The US tolerance for genocide is a driver of genocide all over the world. Read "A Problem from Hell" by @PowerUSAID to see every case where those responsible for some of the worst atrocities of the past 50 years figured out that US backlash was not going to be an issue.

On the night of November 3 2020, TPLF members of the ENDF launched a surprise treacherous attack on their Northern Comman colleagues, attacking many bases simultaneously in the middle of the night killing thousands and taking control of all heavy weapons.
Soon after they launched a barage of missiles at Eritrea.

In counter-offensive, ENDF and Eritrean forces joined forces with regional forces and Fano and retook Mekele. And aid was able to flow to Tigray through till June when the TPLF launched an attack during the election.
After withdrawing from Mekelle The Govt. of Ethiopia declared a unilateral humanitarian ceasefire in the hope that it would be reciprocated to end the war. The TPLF called the ceasefire a sick joke and provided a long list of preconditions to their reciprocaction of a ceasefire.

Diaspora efforts to combat #s3199 and #hr6600 are being actively encouraged by @DemekeHasen

Deputy Premier Calls on Diaspora to Ramp up Efforts to Protect Homeland ena.et/en/?p=34985 via @EthiopianNewsA
“Since the country has continued to face challenges… Ethiopian Diaspora should ramp up efforts to protect interests of their homeland.

He urged diaspora to consolidate support for the current situation in Ethiopia, particularly lifting of the ongoing unwarranted pressures.” Image
I am not sure if Satterfield and Knopf are still in Addis, but the referent to “lifting of ongoing unwarranted pressures” sounds like a reference to #s3199 and #hr6600.

Question is what are these @StateDept emissaries here to discuss?

Ethiopians will be wary about @paytonknopf being part of this delegation. Payton is well known in Ethiopia from his involvement in the USIP Horn of Africa policy paper. Unlocking his twitter account might help.
@StateDept @paytonknopf The USIP policy paper is here >> usip.org/programs/red-s…

It appears that #S3199 has been rewritten >> govtrack.us/congress/bills… but it remains inherently imperialist in nature, giving Congress significant leverage over the future of Ethiopia via legislated sanctions powers.
Meanwhile yesterday @SecBlinken made a point of mentioning Ethiopia in his brief remarks to launch the 2022 @StateDept country reports. Ethiopia's report can be found here >> state.gov/reports/2021-c…

An ETV #AddisDialogues IV with @GettyImages @JemalCountess and Sheba Tekeste (@PushStartMedia1 on twitter) about their recent journalism work in Ethiopia broadcast yesterday.

>> Covers ongoing humanitarian crisis in Northern Ethiopia, Amhara and Afar and their trip to Wolkayit.
The IV begins with an account of their trip to Northern Amhara, where they met with Tegaru IDPs in camps who have fled over the border.

He speaks of the tragedy of Amhara IDP camps in the areas which are under resourced - water, food, sanitation are all major problems.
. @JemalCountess relates his experience seeing IDPs in extremely brutal circumstances in Sekota, where temperatures are often in over 95 Farenheit (36+ Celsius.) Sheba and Jemal also talk about Lalibela which still has no electricity and running water.

#BloodyWinter: winter is coming to Ethiopia and it is going to be bloody

1/ In 2-3 months the rainy season will be upon Ethiopia. I am hoping against hope that I am wrong, but I am afraid it is going to be the bloodiest winter in our history!
2/ It appears, both #TPLF & its backers have given up their hope of bringing #TPLF back to power & have settled for an independent #Tigray to serve as their #HOA proxy to disrupt the region. The catch: An independent #Tigray can not be realized without #Welkait.
3/ #TPLF is using this respite to appease the populace severely affected by food shortage and the terrible cost of the loss from the previous campaign in terms of human life and replenish its dwindling supply to feed its army.

Speaking as ferengi (perhaps a disqualification) IMO this is observably false.

@AbiyAhmedAli may not be perfect but he has played an extremely effective role in the liberation of Ethiopia in extremely difficult circumstances.
Politics is an inherently difficult art. Especially within a genuine democratic framework. Because it requires collective decision making it is an “art of compromise” and it is often also said that it is the “art of the possible”.
This very famous and very old quote encapsulates the dilemma.

“You can please some of the people all of the time, you can please all of the people some of the time, but you can’t please all of the people all of the time”.

@CrisisGroup needs to get rid of @wdavison10. New podcast just dropped full of TPLF propaganda.

I can’t even. #AfarAttackDefensive #ShireArmsFlights #TigrayBlockade all the talking points.

podcasts.apple.com/fr/podcast/hol…
It even begins with an intro which misses out the TPLF attack on the #NorthernCommand which started the war calls from Davison for #WesternTigray to be returned.

If @EroComfort wants to be taken seriously @WillDavison10 and his baggage needs to removed from the theatre.
What @CrisisGroup needs to understand is that Will’s reckons are not even close to fair and balanced. Haven’t been for months, and perhaps that’s the reason they haven’t published anything for months.

Also. What is this about?

Has AAA read the "Ethiopia Stabilization, Peace, and Democracy Act"?

The bill looks like it was drafted by TPLF misinformation operatives - the preamble is factually challenged and it is paternalistic/imperialist in extremis. amharaamerica.org/post/statement…
The bill was proposed by Senators @ChrisCoons and @SenatorRisch back on Nov 4th 2021, as TPLF was marching on Addis - and @StateDept was calling for Americans to leave.

Senate info on the bill is here >> congress.gov/bill/117th-con…
