1st: As it served as an 'inspiration' for Pearl Harbour, people often exaggerate the losses the RM took, taking it as a mini-PH that pretty much knocked out the RM out of the war for a while.

Yeah... not quite. Only one battleship ended up sunk (mostly because it wasn't beached in time), and the others returned to service in a matter of months; hardly the years it took for the USN battlewagons.

The Scirè was a submarine of the Adua class launched in 1938. The vessel was designed for operations in the Mediterranean and thus displaced 700 tons and was 60m long. However it would have been employed not as standard submarine...

In summer 1940 the Scirè was assigned to the X° M.A.S. flotilla and modified to act as S.L.C. carrier, tasked with launching the human torpedo close to their targets. For this purpose, three metallic cylinders were installed on the submarine deck to contain the S.L.C.s
Under the command of Junio Valerio Borghese, the Scirè participated to the various attacks of the X M.A.S. against allied ships in Gibraltar in 1940 and 1941. However its most famous achievement was the attack against Alexandria in December 1941.
