What elections should you be watching tonight besides the mayoral election?!

Well, I have more than a dozen in mind. Here's my list of the #overlookedelectionstakes, an hour away from polls closing! And follow me here for updates as results come in.
1️⃣ The Manhattan DA election!

This is a big one. Progressives have been splitting the vote, but will a reform candidate make it after all?

Here's my thread on 5 reasons the race matters. A lot.
2️⃣ The Buffalo mayoral election!

The incumbent mayor is facing a challenge from the left, supported by DSA & WFP. The mayor's record on policing is a big issue here.

here is some of why it matters: theappeal.org/how-a-troubled…

2020 (even 2020) brought transformative local elections & big progressive wins.

Here's a year-end thread of some of the most 🔥 results that have stayed with me! #overlookedelectionstakes
Before I start, you can relive hundreds of 2020 local races (and why they mattered) at my what's on the ballot:

1️⃣ Voters in Missouri & Oklahoma voted in summer referendums to expand Medicaid: This'll grant public insurance to ≈500K people, a huge deal.

(This leaves a dozen states that have not expanded Medicaid, so keep your eyes on more battles going forward.)

I feel like counting down the top 10 elections I'm watching tonight. let's go with a special #overlookedelectionstakes.
10. The moderate/conservative war in the Kansas GOP, via a dozen legislative primaries.

9. Ann Arbor prosecutor: Lots of "reform" talk but different takes on what level of commitments those need.

8. Rep. Lacy Clay vs. Cori Bush in Missouri, latest chapter of left challenges
7. Maricopa prosecutor: a really interesting left candidate (but just primary; GOP incumbent awaits)

6. Joe Arpaio: Only so low because it feels like Maricopa has shifted enough he'd be an underdog in Nov. anyway.

5. Rashida Tlaib vs. Brenda Jones in Michigan.

A high point of my time on Twitter has doing my #overlookedelectionstakes thread, after the 2018 midterms: stuff that's way under the radar, but so crucial. Tomorrow is Election Day 2019 , and all but a handful of elections are way too neglected. Time for a preview. New thread.
In 2018, Navajos won a majority of seats on the county commission of Native-majority San Juan County, Utah, for the 1st time, after a legal fight to make that possible. So white residents want to change local government again. Organized a referendum. #overlookedelectionstakes
Corey Stewart (the neo-Confederate GOPer in #VASen in 2018) has long been chair of board of Prince William Co. It's a large, blue-leaning county in NoVa, but Stewart has kept it closely tied to ICE, among other policies. He's retiring. Can Dems pick-up? #overlookedelectionstakes

I wrote the thread below on Monday to preview #overlookedelectionstakes: stuff that's way-under-the-radar but so crucial. Now that you've digested the big-picture stuff, time to delve back into all that. In this new thread, I'll review the results of those stakes—& add new ones.
North Carolina: GOP's rumored hope to pack state Supreme Court was thwarted as civil rights attorney Anita Earls ousted Justice Jackson & expanded Dems' majority from 4-3 to 5-2. (Court can only have 2 more seats.) Matters for voting rights litigation. #overlookedelectionstakes
New Hampshire: Safiya Wazir, a one-time refugee, ousted state Rep. Dick Patten in a Dem primary. But Patten attacked Wazir for being an immigrant & a mother, & he endorsed Wazir's GOP opponent. Yesterday, Wazir won. She's heading to the state House. #overlookedelectionstakes
