Who's the wokest of them all?

The UK Govt & its Ministers are hypocrites when it comes to upholding their own stated "fundamental British values" which they, & swathes of the UK press, ignore & contradict through their policies & rhetoric. šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§
In 2014, the Govt published its "Guidance on promoting British Values" in schools - values codified in official guidance on "improving the spiritual, moral, social & cultural development of pupils to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain."
The official "guidance" compels schools to "actively promote" the "fundamental British values of democracy, *the rule of law*, individual liberty, & *mutual respect & tolerance of those of different faiths & beliefs*", which #Ofsted must take into account during inspections. šŸ¤”

Things #Ofsted DID NOT mention in their report into Caversham Primary.
Thread below.
I feel out of my depth jumping in but I have strong connections to the school and Ruth Perry, having worked with her for 10 years and seen my 2 girls thrive there and this needs to be said.
#1 #Ofsted failed to mention the torrential rain during BOTH days of their visit to Caversham Primary. Anyone who has ever worked in a primary school will shudder at the words 'wet play'.
Wet play = over excited, penned in children full of energy.
#2 Before lockdown, Ruth Perry and Caversham Primary had a Mocksted which was OUTSTANDING
Ruth constantly strove for improvement and our school was testament to her commitment.

I left #teaching on Friday. I've had a few days to recover and gather my thoughts, and here they are. I loved the school, loved the children, had great success and was proud of my achievements but after 7 years of giving my heart and soul, I had to stop. Something has to change.
When I joined the school I was impressed with the enlightened attitude to workload, in particular the feedback policy (no crazy book marking, lots of WCF and verbal feedback instead), and behaviour was better than nearby schools... but...
After COVID and the new #OFSTED framework, expectations seemed to ramp up, and behaviour declined. My work days lengthened, while - a victim of my own success - class numbers at GCSE and A-level rose. We couldn't recruit, so I was stretched to breaking point.

The findings show an absence of a systematic and coordinated plot to take over these schools and an absence of any concerted and deliberate plot to promote radicalisation and violent extremism of Muslim children in these schools or elsewhere

language used to talk about the issues of ā€œradicalisationā€ & ā€œextremismā€ is itself the subject of considerable debate (KundnaniĀ 2012; LynchĀ 2013). There is also a difficulty in understanding fully these issues cos there is a lack of an objective or universally accepted definition
As soon as the media took hold of the allegations, there was huge publicity about the promotion of extremism, radicalisation & terrorism.
At the time, the press also expressed many irrational anxieties about these Muslim majority schools (ArthurĀ 2015). Even though, from the

ā€˜The Trojan Horse Scandal and the Problem of Equalities in Britain Todayā€™.

The event examined the scandal from a broad range of perspectives, engaging with debates on #equalities, #liberalism, and #Britishness.

northernnotes.leeds.ac.uk/the-trojan-horā€¦
It also provided an opportunity to discuss and generate a dialogue about the significance of the 'Trojan Horseā€™ scandal and the duty placed on schools after the scandal to promote Fundamental British Values (FBV) in the promotion of #democracy.
Speakers analysed how both are reproducing narratives of racial discrimination & inequalities in a context that is informed by minoritising communities, #problematising specific religious #values, & essentialising the signification of social, religious, & cultural identities.

Sadly #LabourConference2019 matters:
#Ofsted was enthusiastically embraced (and reformed) under Blair / Brown ... so it is sad - but inevitable - that #Labour under #Corbyn want to abolish it. Yet Ofsted has been a key part of driving up #educational #standards in England. 1/
Without any doubt childrenā€™s #education + #school outcomes are better with an #independent regulator. As a Blairite teacher put it to me:
ā€œNo one likes the referee in football but we need themā€
Childrenā€™s education will be affected adversely if this plan goes ahead 2/
Then #Labour votes to abolish #privateschools + ā€œredistributeā€ all building/assets = steal!
- obvs Corbyn, McDonnell, Milne, Lansman all āž”ļø private schools (Watson did not .. but heā€™s a Tory now!)
- real Q= how do they integrate 600,000 extra #pupils (+ pay for this)? 3/

#MEGA Making England Great Again by building a bureacratic wall to keep education dumbed down #firsttheycame #justsayno independent.co.uk/news/educationā€¦
If my children were school age in England I wouldn't comply, no more than I'd register my religion, political affiliation or sexual orientation with timpot dictators. I also object conscientiously to forced electoral registration, same circus with ringmasters on rotation #homeed
Anyone would think they had money to burn. Have they really not noticed the state of their failing schools driven to disaster by #ofsted and austerity & that teachers are opting out in vast numbers? Trump inspired #policybasedevidence

Another short(ish) thread about #Ofsted ... I no longer have any faith (and I never had much) in the impartiality of the inspectorate.
As far as Iā€™m concerned, this is not what an ā€˜evidence informedā€™ organisation looks like - this is an ideological inspectorate that has a view and quotes only the evidence that backs it up.
The research quoted to support the new frameworks has a worrying circularity ā€“ it quotes reports commissioned by the DfE, and research done by Ofstedā€™s own Director of Research.
