Last week @Ldn_Ambulance and @KingsMaternity came together for some joint maternity training. Some of the learning may be useful for #communitymidwives and #ambulanceclinicians in London so I am writing up a thread 🧵

Midwives' scope of practice: MWs sometimes give an oxytocic drug to aid birth of the placenta (active management)
This will be syntometrine or syntocinon depending on area/trust
This is followed by controlled cord traction (CCT)
Normally takes 5-30 mins

Ambulance clinicians can instead use physiology to encourage this process (esp if MW not present)
- Encourage bladder emptying
- Use gravity/upright positioning (have something ready to catch the placenta!)
- Oxytocin helps! (Skin-to-skin, breastfeeding)

Lithotomy is referred to this position. And although now I’m every picture and movie is generally understood as a position of birth. It is relatively modern and now questioned by people like me. But hey there is a man in the picture and not a birthing woman. 
Lithotomy from Greek for "lithos" (stone) and "tomos" (cut), is a surgical method for removal of calculi, stones formed inside certain organs, such as the urinary tract (kidney stones), bladder (bladder stones), and gallbladder (gallstones)
Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, in the last few days significant number of pending verification applications have been cleared by Council.
While efforts are on to clear all the remaining pending applications, we have observed that a substantial number of applicants

particularly those who initiated online application for verification did not complete the application as expected.
Many failed to attach all the required document particularly other qualifications registered with Council or uploaded illegible document and licence.

some have not even applied to NMC -UK yet they went ahead to apply for verification from NMCN while others applied with expired licences.
We noticed that most of the applicants that used smart phone to complete their applications have their document distorted/corrupted.

The latest data from the State of World’s Midwifery report shows the shortage of #midwives is most critical in 8⃣8⃣ low- & middle- income countries where 9⃣5⃣% of 🌐 maternal/newborn deaths & stillbirths occur.

1)IELTS is one of the most recognized and accepted examinations to meet the English proficiency requirement of Nurses and doctors who wish to practice in the #uk. OET(Occupational English test) is another test that is accepted for med.professionals who intend to migrate to #uk
2)For nurses planning to practice in the #uk , they need the IELTS test to meet two requirements:

As abortion rights and provision continue to dominate legal attacks in courts, becoming a fervent question for campaigners in upcoming 2020 political debates, and advocacy increases given the obliteration of rights on the state level, physicians, please remember a few things:
Midwives, advanced practice clinicians (APCs), nurses, residents, students, counselors, support staff and advocates are critical to abortion provision. There are many places where the clinic cannot open if the nurse is not present, even if the physician or provider is.
When it comes to the actual handing-over of abortion pills & the most common abortion procedures like aspiration, physicians & advanced practice clinicians (APCs), including midwives, are skilled providers and nationwide are very active providers in the abortion community.
