First of all, if you haven't submitted your application yet, please be aware the clock is ticking! The UCAS application deadline is 15th October for Medicine, and late applications are rarely considered.

There are a lot of jargon words in #neurology. As a student, I felt particularly confused by the words clonus, myoclonus, and asterixis, so I made this #tweetorial for learners who feel like I did.

Clonus is RHYTHMIC involuntary muscle contractions. It's caused by lesions to the pyramidal tract (ie UMN). It's likely due to exquisitely hyperreflexic muscle stretch reflexes - basically the muscle contraction triggers itself to keep firing in a feedback loop. 
An easy way to check for clonus is by rapidly plantarflexing the foot, but you can sometimes see clonus just by checking muscle stretch reflexes.
Sustained clonus is defined as > 10 consecutive beats, but both sustained and unsustained clonus are generally pathologic in adults.

I approached each of the top 10% in the class I was now leaving. I asked them how they did it, down to the details on brands of pens, where they sat in class, what they ate, and when they went to bed.
Guess what...they were pretty uniform in their methods.

10 things IMG (and USMG) applicants should know for the 2020 residency MATCH: I canāt help but recall how stressful the application journey was one year ago. I hope this thread helps out (instead of adding stress)! @ERAS @AAMC
Build your CV: it helps as you are requesting letters from mentors, or basically any email you're sending. Have a clear CV that speaks of your accomplishments. Do not miss a certificate or work in progress. Here is a link to how to do a cover letter.
Before programs see your application & statement letter, look at it yourself. Know your goals, or at least outlines of your goals. Know your weaknesses and SHOW that you are working on them. Practice your ONE LINER. This will improve your statement letter and application.

2/ I only got 2 items on todayās long āto doā list done ā but thatās on me. I was finally able to sit down for a couple hours uninterrupted and dig deep into a few patient cases from the week.
