Today is the first day of the One Hundred Eighth Nebraska Legislature! For those unfamiliar, Nebraska is unique compared to other states because its body is a Unicameral. Business for today will include election of committee chairpersons as well as setting the framework of rules!

The #Judiciary too will need to ponder and work ceaselessly in delivery of justice fair and prompt. Justice should not be only done but should be “seen too” to have been done. Huge gap witnessed in that direction.

The foundation of #NS' democracy (our legislature, at least) is ironstone from the Dalhousie #quarry on the NW Arm. It's 480 million years old and was a common building material in #Halifax in the 1800s. It rusts due to high iron content.

The #legislature's foundation is #ironstone but the rest is mainly tan #sandstone from the Batte #quarry in #Wallace, #NS. The stone is 300 million years old and about 100,000 blocks of it were used. The walls are up to 3 metres thick.

@NSLeg In 1985 #NovaScotia's legislature was renovated. The exterior sandstone, from Wallace, was cleaned to its original colour so it could be inspected. 1700 stones were replaced with stones from the same quarry so they would match.
@NSLeg is the oldest legislature in #Canada.
