2. 1st, we must acknowledge the power of Twitter to affect public mood, action & policy. This idea was, after all, the explicit reason behind banning Donald Trump & others who allegedly "deny" elections &/or "incite to violence." IOW, Twitter has the power to "move the needle."
3. Using a more recent example: Elon Musk waded into the Russia/Ukraine war w/a series of controversial tweets. Why were they controversial? B/c people implicitly understand the power of influence & how it can tip scales one way or another.

2/ Mai întâi, câteva detalii despre date: am colectat ~210k tweet-uri pentru #istandwithputin, ~120k tweet-uri pentru #istandwithrussia, plus aproximativ 20k imagini atașate. Există o suprapunere semnificativă între cele două hashtag-uri, dar există și diferențe.
3/ Vom încerca să răspundem la „când, cine și ce” pentru aceste două hashtag-uri. Toate rezultatele sunt preliminare.
1/ When the Russian invasion of Ukraine started, we started collecting tweets in order to be able to identify propaganda. The (very long) thread below covers the story of #istandwithrussia and #istandwithputin. Inspired by @marcowenjones' work.
2/ First about the data: we collected ~210k tweets for #istandwithputin, ~120k tweets for #istandwithrussia, plus about 20k attached images. There is significant overlap between the two hashtags, but there are also differences.
3/ I'm going to try to answer the "when, who and what" for these two hashtags. All results are preliminary, still some work planned.
