GR is the government's attempt to discourage and/or forbid inter-faith marriages and is essentially a pre-cursor to laws related to purported love jihad marriages which have stayed in numerous States of India.

Much of his career was in #MuslimChristian understanding partly influenced by his own biography - born into a #Shii family in Qana in Southern Lebanon in 1935 and converting to Protestantism 2/

Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Ordinance, 2020 deals with not just inter-faith marriages but governs all religious conversions.
It prescribes a procedure involving prior notice to State authorities and a declaration post conversion.

It's great to see folx celebrating #KamalaHarris as an #interfaith icon. But, I wonder if we're going to have any serious conversations about how her story represents the way #ChristianSupremacy makes it so common for folx to embrace Christianity over other religions. 1/
#KamalaHarris was raised primarily with her #Hindu mother, but that she now identifies as #Christian. She also went to a #Baptist church as a child, along with friends in her neighborhood. Presumably (like most places), church attendance was normalized, Hindu temples weren't. 2/
So, despite the strong #Hindu influence at home, her #Christian identity became central. She doesn't even identify as both, which is totally possible if your religions aren't exclusivist. eg: I identify with 2 religions (both non-Christian) because of my interfaith upbringing. 3/

Some corners of the internet are attacking @RepEBJ for inviting her constituent, the beloved TX Imam @omarsuleiman504 to give a prayer to Congress yesterday. You might not know who he is, so I'll tell you.
He's known in the Muslim community for being a founder of @MUHSENORG which helps and trains mosques to serve Muslims with special needs and of @yaqeeninstitute which publishes papers on issues facing US Muslims.
Muslims also know him as an ally to Muslim women, bc Sh. omar was one of the first US Muslim religious leaders to take a private and public stand against another TX preacher accused of sexually predatory behavior two years ago.
