I think students need to make more noise about how bad many video lectures (recorded lectures) are. Also, slides. If slides are good, is it worth skipping the video? If the video is bad, do the slides compensate? #education #onlineLearning #instructionalDesign
Anyone who's taken an online course is likely to know why I'm bringing this up — unless you were very, very lucky. We see so many online degrees nowadays. When the courses are asynchronous, that means there will be video lectures.
When the course is 100% online, these video lectures are meant to be a core part of your learning. But are they? Disclaimer: I've made a lot of videos of my own lectures. I hope they are good. I really don't know.
I am super happy to announce that I have been awarded a US$5000 grant from @StraussLibrary to develop an OER ("Open Educational Resource") Casebook of Public Health Ethics Teaching Cases.
Other than the wonderful CDC Casebook, teaching cases in #PHEthx are scarce.

I should know, since I have been scraping the Internet for a decade trying to find them. One of the first-day axioms in #PHEthx is that in important ways it is simply different from health care/clinical ethics. Good teaching cases must reflect these differences.

But some of the early casebooks are frankly dated, and other than the remarkable CDC Casebook ⬇️ there simply are not any good collections of cases really focused on public health ethics & law/policy (let alone open-source ones, either).

When it comes to immersive virtual reality (IVR) and learning, the CAMIL theory identifies specific affordances of learning in immersive virtual environments. CAMIL stands for Cognitive Affective Model of Immersive Learning (CAMIL).
