“In mid-2020,I learned the concept of 'Devarakaadu,' which translates to God's forest in Kannada.I found the concept extremely fascinating."
Back in the days, farmers would carve out a small portion of the farm to grow a forest, preferably with fruit & flower-bearing trees.

The farmer & the farmer's family would not use this land for any other purpose”,says @karthikrangappa (VP Education Services at @ZerodhaVarsity )

In November 2020, I decided to recreate the concept of Devarakadu on our small farm on the outskirts of Bangalore. We carved out a half acre of land, which was not used for farming purposes. The land was dry, with just a few plants.

Honestly I think sometimes that it would make the most sense to manage this nonsense in an entirely fictional manner.

Hear me out.
"The People" want to see unhoused people locked up in prison, but the least expensive and most effective way to deal with homelessness is to house people.

So do that, and just TELL all of these assholes "Yeah, you're safe now! We sent all them all to death row for being poor!"
Alternately, just say "Congratulations! You were all so horrible to those people that they finally hit rock bottom and pulled themselves up by their bootstraps." They'll be on a Sunday Morning show soon to share the #inspirational tale.

Remember this Kenyan runner Abel Mutai who was just a few feet from the finish line, but became confused with the signage and stopped, thinking he had completed the race. A Spanish runner, Ivan Fernandez, was right behind him and, realizing what was happening,
started shouting at the Kenyan to continue running. Mutai didn't know Spanish and didn't understand. Realizing what was taking place, Fernandez pushed Mutai to victory.

A journalist asked Ivan, "Why did you do that?"
Ivan replied, "My dream is that someday we can have a kind of community life where we push and help each other to win."
The journalist insisted "But why did you let the Kenyan win?" Ivan replied, "I didn't let him win, he was going to win. The race was his."

Not a lot of people know this, but a couple summers ago I had the greatest adventure ever. I went to Amity Island.

I got to meet all kinds of people including the sheriff and mayor.

I kept hearing people scream about a shark with big #Jaws

Here I am getting a killer tan.
While I was there, as I said, I befriended the local sheriff (Brody), a local fisherman (Quint), and some smart scientist guy (Richard Dreyfuss).

They were all very nice. Here's a photo of us out on Quint's boat.

Best guy's night out ever. They told me all kinds of stories!
They were my best friends ever.

So here's a little jaunt into my summer holiday in #Amity.

Hagar was with her son in the wilderness. The boy was very thirsty and about to die. Hagar had searched everywhere and found no source of water. Then something shocking happened....the bible says THEN GOD OPENED HER EYES AND SHE SAW A WELL!
God did not create a well. The well was there. God only opened her eyes to see it. But she had looked that same place without seeing anything earlier!!!
When God opens your eyes you will see opportunities and great life changing ideas where you searched before and saw nothing!!!
Lets all cry out this morning and say OH GOD OPEN MY EYES!

We all know that Kareena Kapoor is expecting a second child.
We know that Anushka Sharma is expecting her first child.
We also know which actor wear which designer cloth...

But do you know about Cadet Amit Raj?

#SaturdayThoughts
I know your answer and I don't completely blame you for this. We only get to see sh*t irrelevant news but nothing else.

On 7th of Dec, Cadet Amit Raj of Sainik School(Purulia) was at his hometown in Bihar when he heard people shouting at his neighbourhood.

@TheRightster
Went out to see a house was on fire. Without thinking and entered the house to save 3 children who were trapped inside. He sustained 85% of burn by the time he saved the first two children and decided to save the third one.

Sigh. Where to begin?

In our longitudinal study we showed that w each additional same gender mentor students had 2x greater chance of staying in the geosciences...

But then again we didn't define success as number of papers published... nature.com/articles/s4146…
In our 2018 Geosphere paper we illustrated that with each same gender mentor, undergrads who identify as women increased their likelihood of staying in the field (~25% w 0 mentors, ~75% w 3 or more mentors) pubs.geoscienceworld.org/gsa/geosphere/…
in our 2020 (shorter term) follow up study - we illustrated that students needed to meet #inspirational role models, skills & knowledge to overcome obstacles, & a local mentor nature.com/articles/s4324…

Positive #transformations are always great to see as an end product. The journey to a transformation however is almost always hidden. On the first day of #phd #gradschool in @umasschemengg, I introduced myself by saying....contd.

@AcademicChatter
....I came to the US for the ‘#science’ and ‘#fitness’ industry that is known to be the best in the world. Everyone got a good laugh 😂 out of it. However, I wasn’t kidding at all 😈! I always had this vision of a scientist 👨🏾‍🔬who is also ripped to the core physically 💪🏾.
In that pursuit, I reached my best physique towards the end of year 2 of my #PhD when I also got #married 👩🏻‍🤝‍👨🏽 to @priyankaitkar9. I was still not quite there with the #science. Today, 4 years later, I am successfully @PhDone2020 and getting close to the best shape of my life!

This is my friend Hajj Nadeem from Birmingham. He has made some of the best parenting decisions that I have ever seen in the UK He was a successful business man in the UK but he left it and moved to Syria for his two daughters and his sons. Image
When I was in the final years of Damascus, Hajj Nadeem moved to Syria with the sole intention that he wanted his two daughters and his young son to learn Arabic. He brought them to Shaam when the girls were about 4-5 years old.
He enrolled them in to Arabic schools and they began to memorise the Qur'an. They were blessed to see so many of the elder shuyukh. He and his wife sacrificed everything for these two girls.

Il Detachment Makes Us Hardhearted & Attachment Doesn't ll

Is it True ?

Sometimes people think “If I become detached, I will become hardhearted.!! "

However, what makes us hardhearted is not detachment, but its opposite: attachment.
When we become attached to something, we experience intense emotions in relation with that object. But those very emotions can impel us towards unbecoming, immoral and hurtful actions, especially towards those whom we see as threats to our attachment.
At the *Bhagavad-Gita's* ~ Dhritarashtra enquires: "On the battlefield of Kurukshetra, what did my people and the Pandavas do?"

Beautiful message from Bill Gates

Subject:

What is the Corona/ Covid-19 Virus Really Teaching us?

I’m a strong believer that there is a spiritual purpose behind everything that happens, whether that is what we perceive as being good or being bad.
As I meditate upon this, I want to share with you what I feel the Corona/ Covid-19 virus is really doing to us:

1) It is reminding us that we are all equal, regardless of our culture, religion, occupation, financial situation or how famous we are.
This disease treats us all equally, perhaps we should to. If you don’t believe me,
just ask Tom Hanks.

2) It is reminding us that we are all connected and something that affects one person has an effect on another.

This is Sh.Musa al-'Azimi @Musa_al3azmi, author of these books on Sirah & bio of the 4 Caliphes.

These books are based on his reading of books of ahadith & their explanations (250+ volumes). But what's amazing is that he read all of them in the times between the Adhan & Iqamah!
@Musa_al3azmi He is the mu'adhin of his masjid. So for every salah he'd come to the masjid, call out the Adhan, pray 2 units of salah & then sit down to read.

Whenever he comes across anything related to the Sirah of the Prophet ﷺ or the biographies of the Sahabah, he'd make a note of it.
@Musa_al3azmi The times between the Adhan & Iqamah of every salah, according to his masjid, adds up to 1.5 hours per day.

He'd make sure to fully use this 1.5 hours in a day for reading and put his phone away.

After a few years, he ended up reading 250+ volumes!

How do you help critically-endangered pangolins cross the road?

Build a eco-link!

These wildlife bridges (not open to people) connect rainforest reserves in Singapore.

At a cost of $12M each, they are still thought worth it. #urbangreening #gardencity
