Are you a freelance writer struggling to find consistent work? I have something that'll change that for good!

A Thread 🧵 Image
A few weeks ago, I received a notification from Upwork that really made me reflect on my progress. In my 3 years on Upwork, I've worked with 40+ clients from 6 continents, including a company with annual revenue of $693.5M. I've got a story to tell.
But as freelancers, we're never as gracious to ourselves as we are to others. In our bid to squeeze out new wine from ourselves, we subconsciously suppress our achievements, preventing people from learning from the hurdles we've crossed. To ourselves, we haven't done nothing!🤔

If you want to become a freelance writer, be prepared for the never-ending search for clients.

Throughout my (fairly long) writing career, I've thankfully NEVER had a dry month. 💪

Here's what I do to get more consistent writing work.

A THREAD
1) Subscribe to/Follow @weischoice and @kaitarford

Sonia and Kaitlyn painstakingly curate the latest writing opportunities (sometimes, with pay) 1-2 times a week.

This has helped me score some great gigs without having to look for them myself.

THANK YOU, you rockstars! 🙏
2) Make LinkedIn your freelance BFF

- Search for your dream company.
- Under 'People,' look for titles like 'Head of Content.'
- Send a connection request.

Instead of pitching your services right away, start a polite conversation. No 'Hey, Dear' and shit. 🙅‍♀️

Be professional.

TIP 1

When any client places an order or asks you about something about the project, first greet them, then reply politely with a satisfying answer.
Try to convince him that you're the one he needs this is exactly the kind of project you love to do.
TIP 2

While creating the offer, you must explain in brief why it charges that much with respect to how much work is needed and how much effort you’re going to put into it.
Don't negotiate to much as it will degrade your value.

Freelancing is friggin' scary. 👻

You're the boss so you're responsible for your own business. While it has its perks, most of the time, you don't know what you're doing.

What are common freelancer fears, and how do we get over them?

A #halloweenspecial 🧵:
1) "I'm never getting a new project!"

❌What happens:
- Accept low-paying projects even though your plate's full ➡️ Burn out.

✅What to do instead:
- Keep an abundance mindset. There's enough work to go around.
- Keep marketing yourself. The right clients will come to you.
2) "I'm not good enough!" (aka impostor syndrome)

❌What you do:
- Procrastinate & submit substandard output.

✅What to do instead:
- Remember there's a reason why the client hired you.
- Look through swipe file of wins & testimonials to remind yourself you did this before 💪
