What happened to the stories about the Bayraktars that Ukraine had? In the early days of the war there was some hype about them, some videos supposedly showing them taking out things, but since then there hasn't been much? We were told it had changed the "nature" of war...?

I understand media sometimes wants to hype things and of course Ankara wanted more sales...but all these uncritical articles by major media about how this drone had literally "remade" war...is there maybe a place for them to go back and do a critical look, I mean did it or not?
Drone warfare using UAVs is increasing around the world, and that means increased training relating to drones and counter-UAS operations #DroneWars
For instance on Sept 13 a member of the 51st Security Forces Squadron defender, called in "a possible drone sighting during a training scenario at Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea...The scenario trained defenders on their ability to identify and effectively respond"

Remember those media articles that were basically PR about the Bayraktar drones, even claiming they somehow remade war (even though other countries used drones for years); now with Ethiopia using them, will there be front page stories?
My point is that somehow Ankara got all these major media in the US to “discover” drone warfare, even after the same media called it controversial when the US did it…and make drone strikes seem romantic and new…
Yet I have a feeling that it’s not so glorified when Ethiopia is alleged to do it…so which is it, are Ankara’s drones “re-making” war or just doing what Predators and Reapers and others did before, a bit cheaper though?

Thread: Iranian media reporting on the targeting of the Turkish Bashiqa base in northern Iraq. It says drones were used in the attack and names a new group "Ahrar Sinjar" as claiming responsibility. This group (احرار سنجار) seems to be a stand-in for some other group
What do we know about this: Pro-Iran groups have used drones increasingly in Iraq over the last year, often targeting US forces and Erbil in the KRG. This means the kamikaze drone, which is mentioned in this article, is the new weapon of choice for Iran and its proxies.

The #DroneWars; the ability of Ukraine to apparently keep its armed drones in the air is very important. Of course it would be good to know eventually more specifics about this; but if it’s happening as reported it’s quite extraordinary
The reason it’s extraordinary is because the Bayraktar is not particularly fast and it’s is vulnerable to air defense but it has shown an ability to get around Russian-made defenses in Syria and Libya.
Considering Russia bragging about controlling the air, Moscow’s inability to stop the drone threat says a lot. Big question is about how much munitions Ukraine has for the drones and can it keep them safe and flying.

Months ago we were told that Russia was "rattled"...that Ukraine was "boosted" by Turkish drones it acquired. A "big role" in Ukraine's offense...so today where are the drones? Or is this a lesson that these kinds of UAVs alone are actually not gamechangers?

One of the narratives, falsely understood I think, from the Azerbaijan-Armenia conflict was that the Ankara-made drones were a gamechanger, when in fact it was other loitering munition technology, primarily Israel's, that was important alongside it
Ankara has a very close relationship with some media and it feeds stories to the media to pump up the sales...there are uncritical reports...like questions of "how do the drones work in contested airspace"?
Thread: Let's take a quick look at the drones used in the attack on Asad base and make a few comparisons.
A comparison with the images of a drone used on January 3, shows some differences in construction (wing attachment etc); but the basic concept appears similar.
We can see here via @nafisehkBBC the photos from the Jan. 3 drones;
The propaganda about Ankara’s drones, much of which cannot be verified at all, is amazing because as far as I know, no other armed drone programs or loitering munitions out out all these supposed videos and lists of supposed success. The only way to measure is that way
For instance, ok I’m interested in any confirmed successes Ankara’s drones had, whether it is supposedly striking hundreds of armed vehicles in Syria or Armenian vehicles…but how can any of it be confirmed. It’s usually just reports of Blitzkrieg like success at face value
Other drones, like loitering munitions also used against Armenian forces are relegated to non-existent because no one bothers to quantify their use or success…it’s like a footnote (“and there were other drones”)…

Drones don’t win wars. Just like F-16s, which are much better than drones in many respects, don’t win wars by themselves. The US used a plethora of drones in Afghanistan and other countries fighting insurgents-terrorists and the US didn’t win…
Israel uses drones and drones don’t alone win the wars…they give a country an asset, and in uncontested airspace they can play a role. But Houthis aren’t winning a war with them. They harass, they provide intel, they can do a lot. But be wary of the simple story.
What is known is that these types of drones have appeared in Iraq at PMU events; #DroneWars;

This matters. Israel's Defense Minister Benny Gantz: "these new capabilities provide the political echelon and defense establishment with the operational flexibility that is critical to our national security." There were also two recent Iron Dome flight tests.
