2/ Before I get started, I'll give everyone a little bit of background information. @michaelpollan released a non-fiction work entitled "How to Change Your Mind" in May of 2018. Before the end of that year, his book about #psychedelic drugs became a @nytimes bestseller. 
3/ @michaelpollan achieved massive coverage for this self-described "mental travelogue" of his #psychedelic experiences. Soon enough, Mr. Pollan became a prominent figure w/in the so-called "Psychedelic Renaissance". In the process, he gained a rather interesting reputation.

Germany has lost the plot on #prostitution so completely that we are seriously after 20 years of legal free-for-all for sex buyers debating whether maybe letting them gang-bang women in a state of advanced pregnancy might be just slightly medically and ethically questionable? 🤦♀️
And I'm pissed off at both sides here because the right is only interested in this because they care about unborn children, i.e. they're also currently restricting our abortion rights, and the left just cares about men's pleasure and pretending that it equates to women's freedom.
But the #prostitution of heavily pregnant women is not a matter of personal opinion. And it's also entirely unrelated to questions of sexual agency, e.g. when a pregnant woman chooses to have sex for her own pleasure or sex to help induce labour. It's simply extremely dangerous.

In the 00's, @chicagosmayor's Office set out to change the way sex work was policed, issuing guidance to @Chicago_Police to focus on arresting buyers (i.e End Demand) rather than sex workers. This can be understood as a watered-down version of the "Nordic Model."

To understand how arrest practices did/didn't change, we looked at annualized arrest statistics and conducted mixed-methods analysis of 575 arrest reports from 2015 to 2017. Arrests overall dropped BUT over 80% of those arrested were still sex workers.

NY battlefield: 'Orlins call for full decriminalization the same week NY state Sen Krueger announced introducing a version of the Nordic model which involves arresting the clients of sex workers + in some circumstances not arresting the sex workers themselves.' That last is odd.
'Nordic model advocates have begun to refer to their model as “decriminalizing sex work”...deliberately misleading as members of any other profession—say, hairdressers—would hardly consider their work to be “decriminalized” if it were legal to sell a haircut but not to buy one.'

Women in #prostitution are not fodder to protect the rest of us from violent men. This is not on women wanting to be decriminalised, but it is absolutely on the people who argued that sex is a (male) human right and a simple harmless service. feministcurrent.com/2020/01/31/pro…
Marylène Lévesque would literally still be alive, if Canadian authorities hadn't thought a murderer's sexual needs more important than her safety and enforced the Nordic Model that would make it unthinkable to endorse a man purchasing access to a woman in #prostitution.
#Decriminalization would not have protected her. Instead it would let more dangerous men leave institutions & prisons for the purpose of "purchasing sex" as though this is a kind of therapy or maybe akin to a massage (and the location of most brothels would be completely unknown)
